So now it's down to the dancing gnome to prevent the hit and run merchant from winning.

Read post 17. It is not a dance contest.

I would prefer a STRICTLY dance show, but the BBC have made it perfectly clear over the last few years that it is an entertainment show and the public should vote for their favourite dancer.”

Its an entertainment show based on dancing and IMO the best dancer should win not the person that people like the most, makes a complete mockery out of the contest, I wont even bother watchin it next week because its obvious chris will win, he hasnt being in the bottom 2 once for some strange reason

What is it then? A juggling contest? Conjuring? Lion taming? I'll never believe it's a singing competition after hearing that fat geezer in drag.

Yes I did read post 17.

What is the point of them going through all these professional dancing routines and getting the judges to score if it has nothing to do with a dance contest. You might as well sit them all down let them have a conversation and decide who bores you that way.

Oh go on...I bet you can manage to be more unpleasant if you try a bit harder.

If it were a pure dance contest the public would be given no vote.

Think they were all watching X Factor and forgot to vote.

I would welcome the day the public had no vote, but unfortunately if would affect the viewing figures so it will never happen.

The BBC have stated many times now that SCD is an entertainment show where the public can vote for their FAVOURITE celebrity/pro.

I campaigned for many years to make SCD a STRICTLY dance show but was told in no uncertain terms that it was always and will always be an entertainment show.

The contest embraces all aspects of dance. The judges look for quality of dance, but fail to take into account entertainment value. The public look for a combination of entertainment, a connection and chemistry between partners, and the dreaded 'j' word. the adventure of that comes with learning a new skill and engaging the viewers in the sheer joy of the experience.

poison_feng you need to start the campaign again - I'm with you. Now they are losing so badly to X factor they might start saying "sod it", do something different and listen to us!

I am sorry Miss. Can you help me?

Entertainment doesn't mean personality. You can entertain a crowd with singing or playing an instrument but not show your personality while doing so.

Do you know Come Dancing ratings? It was canned right?

BBC will have to lose the plot completely if they take it back to a dance competition format. Can't see it happening anytime soon.

Which is why many of us now watch Ballroom Dancing on Eurosport.

It has one of the fastest growing audiences and Eurosport are going to extend the coverage.

My point is that a dance contest can be entertaining without all the OTT messing around with your pro partner. That is not why I watch it.

The thing about personality, and the lack of it, is that it all depends on how much you find out about all the contestants. A recent example is IAC where Jimmy White was effectively edited out of the show because of the production. All shows need a story to engage with the limited attention span of the audience. If there isn't any 'angle' then people get overlooked. Unfortunately the supposedly media savvie public haven't caught up with this ploy/manipulation yet.

I think we all know that, but it is an entertainment show where the entertainment is to watch celebrities learn how to dance.....not an entertainment show where we watch them do a comedy routine or work hard breaking rocks or whatever.
As such I would expect people to determine who their favourite couple is with at least some reference to how well they dance.

As to tonight's result, I agree with an earlier poster who said it may be because of votes to Rickky from floating voters and those who only vote in the latter stages of the competition (I normally only vote in the final but I did vote - once - tonight for Ricky since without the DO and with only 3 couples it was in effect part 1 of the final).

”

They are your expectations - but not necessarily the anticipation of others.

The show wouldn't succeed if all viewers used the same yardstick to judge entertainment.
