I'm always suspicious of the constant questioning of someones sexuality in a competition like this.

Despite the mantle of pc attitudes towards gay people that is often displayed, I suspect that some of the people who keep bashing on about it are actually desperately trying to influence people not to vote for them.

Homosexuality is not completely accepted in the country I'm afraid, and girls like to think their fantasy figures might possibly fancy them back.

There is no evidence that Joe is gay, insisting that he is, and then insisting that there is nothing wrong with being gay is disingenuous.

Of course, this may not be your intention, but it does come over this way, I'm afraid.

Its not a bad thing as such, its just that I think a lot of people want fo say that he is gay when there is no evidence for it.

I cannot see anything camp in his behaviour, he is nice and pleasant that is for sure. A different thing from being camp and no evidence that he is gay at all. He does not set off my "gaydar".

Beliefs are ok but there is no evidence for it, he is not camp or gay-acting at all.

Nah - people are just interested because of the lack of role models in the public eye. Those who think this shouldn't be discussed are generally quite homophobic I think. As if referring to the possibility of someone being gay is some sort of slur.

Re your point on girls and fantasy figures, Freddie Mercury, george Michael and Will Young for example have done pretty well for themselves over the years haven't they?

What antiquated tosh some people speak

Sorry, really there is nothing wrong with being gay.

I would much rather Joe won than Olly, incidently, so didn't give out that whole - 'YOU JUST SECRETLY HATE JOE' thing!

If pretending someone was straight gained them the votes of some homophobes, would that seriously make it right

First inaccurate sweeping generalisation of the day. I suspect there will be more.

It always amazes me that people think that being gay is absolutely fine and nobody cares about it now.

Things have got much better, and there has ALWAYS been tolerance of it to a greater degree in entertainment, but it is just not true to say that homosexuality is totally accepted by everybody.

It should be, but it isn't - by many, and many of them are young.

It's you that are naive I'm afraid, I wish it were antiquated tosh.

Accurate generalisation.

But a generalisation I agree.

Oh right, so because there are still some homophobes around, gay men in pop should be kept closeted.

Wonderful way to kept prejudice alive that.

Maybe we should white up the black contestants so they don't lose the racist vote too...

(Incidentally, I don't think many of Joe's voters are voting for him because they fancy him. Or at least I hope not, given his core vote is amongst the over-50s...)

It's precisely this kind of attitude that perpetuates homophobia. I'm not saying that you specifically are overtly homophobic but as long as people DON'T insist that homophobia is outdated and DON'T insist it's wrong then it will still be tolerated.

Very insulting to girls and a good way to lose respect Rhumbatugger.

Could be considered to be a sexist remark.

Certainly not.

If Joe has come out as openly gay - good for him.

If he hasn't then he is either straight or it's nobody's business.

I think attempting to OUT people, especially when they might actually be straight, is usually done by people who are on the ATTACK.

For reasons other than any sort of care about their sexuality, or them.

If he is gay he won't be the first winner on these type of shows.

What about the gay girl (Alex?) who had spikey hair and always wore dungarees ... she won was it Pop Idol?

What's she doing now?

I'm sorry but I don't care about his sexuality. If he wins this it should be because of his voice not his lifestyle.

There is simply no evidence that he is gay in the way he acts.

So there simply is nothing to go on.

What , you think that if women are over 50, they are finished in the bloomer department, maybe they would be the right age group to give him a good 'sorting'.

Oh for goodness sake. Suggesting that young girls like credible fantasy figures is sexist? Whoo, young boys like credible fantasy figures too. Again generalisation, but broadly true.

In the context it was perfectly credible.

Beware you don't come over as completely up yer fundament.
