So its X Factor vs Rage against the machine (a song which everyone is buying to keep x factor off the top spot becuase a radio DJ suggested it)

I feel the Rage is against the machine song is a bit too metal for a Christmas number one.

I'd like to see this get to number one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhTdfCBjf7U

A good xmas number one for me is cheesy / funny. like Mr Blobby

Whats your ideal Christmas number one? How many Christmas number ones from your childhood do you remember?

Also - whats your favorite Christmas film?

in an alternative reality somewhere Stefan Dennis is a global superstar and Kylie Minogue is forgotten.

Shudder.

1973 Slade Merry Xmas Everybody

1974 Mud Lonely This Christmas

1984 Band Aid Do They Know It's Christmas?

1985 Shakin' Stevens Merry Christmas Everyone

1994 East 17 Stay Another Day

I'd love to see the Sex Pistols get a Christmas number 1

For some reason, aside from the original Band Aid hit, the Christmas number one from my childhood that sticks in my memory the most is the 1982 Renee and Renato 'Save your Love my Dahling Saaaave Your Love' extravaganza. It must have been the most parodied duet in the early 80's - the Kenny Everet cover was hilarious.

Ohhh, Christmas number ones you DON'T want to remember - that school choir one 'There's Noone Quite Like Grandma'!!! Nooooo, that will be in my head now for days!!!!

The song is not the point. It's a revolt against manufactured muzac, and two fingers up to the Cowells of this depressing little world.

I've got everything crossed that RATM gets to number one. I know people got Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" to number two last year so hopefully they'll go one step further.

The way Cowell claims it will "spoil the party" for the x factor winner implies that he just assumes the number one spot is his regardless.

It'll be something like x-factor. I just can't see people who are passionate about music, being interested in a singles chart.

I don't see it too much as a controversy, the x-factor is pushing with it's full weight to get their single to number 1 obviously.

Now someone has started an internet campaign to try and balance it out, seem perfectly fair to me.

It should be a choice between Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin

Is it the cost? It's a single so it must be pretty cheap.

What about Terry Wogan and Aled Jones charity Christmas record of Silver Bells? apparently HMV shops are hiding it and not advertising it.Surely a childrens charity is better than the Simon Cowell charity, his bank account.

If anyone even just one person, buys more than one copy of either song, it should automatically not count.

Wait, that's stupid. Ignore that.
