...as soon as she said "my dead grandmother would be so proud if I got to the final" <paraphrase>

Bye bye Ali. We all like a good dead relative story but having it rammed down the old throat is too much to bear.

She didn't ram it down our throat, she said it once.

Someone should have at least told the girl that Granny doesn't know anything about it, given she is no longer with us.

It was quite the sob-fest all round last night though, I think they all squeezed out a tear at some point. Natalie was like a different person, some portal to her softer side definitely seems to have opened!!

Someone kicked her really hard in the shins before they filmed it clearly.

That's of course your opinion. I beg to differ.

She wasn't #1 on judges' leaderboard, it was clear to me that Team Koala as a public's favourite would make it, plus one.

It's not like I mind her mentioning the dead gran. It was quite touching really, up until the point she actually said that her gran would be proud if she got into the final.
Talk about using the sympathy vote to get a shoehorn to the next round. Blurgh

Rather odd that SCD decided that last night was the night to show the footage they had of her being a human being for the first time (and they've had it all along), and the fact that she seemed genuinely a complete and other mess throughout the show I think made her endearingly. Well Ricky said she was and I guess she really is. Although at times she did come across as slightly out of it emotion wise on SCD.

Yeah didn't like that BUT to be fair they all worked the emotional manipulation angle last night.

Sadly that's how I felt as well. I've no doubt that her Gran would have been proud of her but, it was a little too X-Factor for me.

What I found particularly contrived was the "doing it for the girls" comment. Ali has never shown any sisterly solidarity before last night and she looked quite uncomfortable exposing this previously hidden side of her nature.

If the celebs are being coached, I wish they were encouraged to be themselves and drop the needless embelishments. It never comes across well when it isnt sincere.

I liked Ali and think she should have got through .. but I agree, that was slightly sickening. But she's not the first to try it and not the last. I thought Ricky was pretty damn fake until last night - you can't fake that kind of shock in the split second. Just whatever you do, don't say anything about Chris being fake or people will get mad. I happen to think ALL these TV types are a lot smarter than the tabloid reading public understand.

Ali hasn't shown any lack of sisterly solidarity, and as the last remaining girl why shouldn't she feel there's an element of doing it for them?

It's a times like this when it would be nice to know the voting numbers (and I don't mean percentages). If they've gone up, we may be seeing the dreaded "casual viewer" effect.

But since we don't have those numbers, what have the viewing figures been like? Have they been going up, for instance?

Ali is agreat dancer, but throughout the competition she was constantly being picked up for mistakes by the judges ,only minor ones admittedly, but mistakes all the same. However when it came to the time that the judges had to wave their table tennis bats, the scores did not reflect those comments, hence she was consistently overscored. I was not at all surprised that she went out, although she probably didnt deserve to

she said that as a reply to being told by Tess that she was 'the last girl standing' .. she didn't volunteer the information

dazie, are you seriously suggesting that until it was mentioned, Ali had no idea she was the last girl left? You do know the live show is rehearsed, marks and post-dance questions included, right?

I think .. like Ricky .. her routines, even with small mistakes, were far more complicated than some of the other competitors.

It may have been wiser for them to have gone down the Chris and Ola route .. and done fairly simple routines (which they could execute perfectly in their sleep), but that's not the point of a dance competition is it .. you want to push yourself to see what you can do.

Ricky has ironed out most of his problems now .. Chris hasn't really improved since week one (as his Rumba showed).

Ali's nerves were her worse enemy .. especially on the latin dances where she felt more uncomfortable. The judges didn't really help with this as they just berated her for it and didn't offer 'constructive' advice.

Laila .. after that disasterous American Smooth was told by Len to come out and shake your bum for the Salsa .. Ali was told by him that she was a 'one trick pony' .. that's enough to dent anybody.

No I'm not suggesting that .. I'm suggesting that she replied to a comment and I don't think she would have made that remark if Tess hadn't made that comment.
