Simon's attitude to Olly
neelia
13-12-2009
Sorry if there has already been a thread about this. I did have a wee look but didn't spot one.

I can't remember the exact words but when Simon was giving his comments to Olly it seemed to be a bit of a goodbye speech.

I tend to make a default assumption that Simon's reactions to things are not what they seem but I think he was genuinely supprised that Olly got through.

Could it be that at one point that Olly was flagging behind Stacey at one point and Simon was expecting him to go but that things changed in the voting?

I am not trying to decry Olly's sucess as I am delighted that he got through.

Anyone else thought that Simon was saying bye bye?

I did. Simon backed the wrong horse (danyl) all the way through, ignoring the publics opinions.

And STILL last night he was backing the other two.

In a way I hope that Olly loses tonight, because someone else will pick him up and put him in the way of a career (even Louis!) - because it's clear - Simon doesn't know what he has.

At least he didn't call him 'Joe'.

I thought they were all talking like he was going home.

I also thought Simon looked genuinely surprised, and I must say, genuinley pleased to see Olly go through. I have felt since very early in the live shows that there is genuine personal affection between the two.

He was saying that someone was going to suffer be it Olly Joe or Stacey and that there was only going to be one person in the final and then Cheryl added that tonites show would be about the bottom two. thats what i surmised anyway

Simon's face when Olly got through said it all, genuinley surprised.

It has been obvious for some weeks now that Simon is backing Cheryl only - and as Joe (a competent singer) is likely to win, then that's who he backed and is backing.

Olly is in the final by some strange quirk - does anyone actually think he has talent? Surely there must be some mistake?

Yes I noticed that. I've never seen Simon express so much delight

I remember how much Simon liked Olly at his first audition. but I can't see what Simon see in him.

They'll be very surprised when Olly wins tonight then.

Yeah, they were talking like he was going home, which I think probably encouraged people to vote more
Simon looked chuffed, but shocked at the same time when Olly got through, I think this week he's got closer to Olly and realised that he was always backing the wrong person!

I too thought Simon was saying "Goodbye" to Olly last night & Simon genuinely appeared surprised & absolutely delighted to hear Olly's name called.

I'd love Olly to win, but I can't see it happening... still, what matters is the career afterwards, and Olly in terms of records will last longer.

Olly had probably trailed Stacey in the voting for the past few weeks. Simon's suprised laugh when Olly's name was called looked very genuine.

Spot on about SC backing the wrong one. IMO he gave shxt songs to both Oily and Jamie to make Danyl appear to be better than he actually was.

Maybe Simon has been taking acting lessons? But I know what you mean, I thought the same, it looked like genuine surprise.

I wonder if he will be as happy if it happens again tonight?

I think Simon was really shocked that Olly got through. He is acting like his really likes him at the moment but he did the same with Steve Brookstein and then turned on him a few months after his win.

Yeah i totally got that impression that simon was saying goodbye.

That was what 30/20 minutes before the voting lines froze. Of course simon knows how the votes are going, its his show. I think at that point olly must have been behind stacey, but a lot can happen in a short period of time.

The same thing happened in 2007. If you listen to simons comments after rhydians last performance, you'll see that he kind of knew how it as going to finish. He even called rhydian "leon" and said "oops freudian slip"

It might have been shock but judging by his little speech on Xtra Factor I think he probably did want it for Olly. Yeah Simon's been a rubbish mentor and any affection won't last but even so..
