Ricky's Waltz (and the emotion of a dance)

Watching Ricky's Waltz last night I realised it was the first time for a long time that I had tears rolling down my cheeks at the beauty of a dance on SCD. When Colin did his Rumba in the final, and Ray and Camilla's beautiful VW, I was the same. None of the dances received full marks from the judges, yet will remain personal favourites of mine for years to come.

They don't have to be perfect, but, I was wondering which are the FMs three most emotional dances.

Me:

For me it would be:

Alesha & Matthew - Waltz (the most beautiful dance I've ever seen on SCD)
Alesha & Matthew - Foxtrot
Ricky & Natalie - Waltz (second one)

Those are the only dances that I can remember having a tear in my eye when watching them. Of course it doesn't apply to latin - when you cry at latin, that's not good lol.

Ricky is the only celeb dancer to have evoked emotion out of me this year. I cried when he Waltzed as well, he is such a beautiful dancer!
Excellent choreography Natalie. I think they are the only two left that kind of 'live' the dance. His AT made me really proud too.

Ricky & Natalie's Waltz definitely one of my favourite most emotional dances.

If I knew that I'd be worth a fortune.

Rachel and Vincent's rumba, tango and second American Smooth.
Also their Argentine Tango, the opening to the salsa, their VW...

Absolutely. He is so sincere in the emotion he expresses, which is really what separates him from the other contestants in this year's show I think.

Break their hearts like everyone-else would?

I'd go for Ricky/Natalie argentine tango, (should of had an 18 rating!) then Colin/Erin Rumba (I could not understand why judges didn't see it that way), then Ricky/Natalie waltz.
There's something about Ricky's timing that makes his dances special, I think.

I had tears in my eyes for both Ricki's waltz and Ali's AS from last night's show. Just stunningly beautiful and magical dances, both of them. Oddly enough Ricki's AT didn't bring tears to my eyes even though I prefered it to his waltz- I think I was just mesmerised by it. And no, I've no idea why I was moved almost to tears by them, I just was! Off the top of my head, I remember being very moved by Alesha's Viennese Waltz and final waltz.

People do shed tears when something touches them. I can't understand why you would think that it doesn't. Several posters have given examples, yet sadly you've never been able to connect that way with a dance on SCD.

Can you see why music might get someone crying? Add a suitable dance, and the effect can be even stronger.

I cry all the time at dancing - even Strictly! Anything that makes me forget I'm sitting in my living room with my slippers on, that's what makes me cry! Oh, and, on Strictly, there are moments when the contestants go to be judged and you can see that they've really connected with the dance they've just done and aren't really quite back out of the zone. There's a huge vulnerability about those moments that always brings a tear to my eye.

Plus I always believe having a wonderful piece of music accompanying the waltz makes it so wonderful and that was a beautiful song sung by that fantastic new singer Andrea .

Like James Jordan and Cherie Lunghi dancing to that lovely Fleetwod Mac song Songbird sung beautifully by Hayley.

1. Ali & Brian Viennese Waltz
2. Ali & Brian's American Smooth for the romance
3. Rachel & Vincent's rumba

Honorary mention to Alesha & Matthew's Viennese Waltz.

I think I'm alone in this, but I've just watched that waltz and I didn't like it. At all.

I think it was the music, and that there wasn't any real beat to it that did it, I need to hear the rhythm in the music, it wasn't there.

So what are your favourites? I didn't start the thread to criticise but, to acknowledge the beautiful performances of celebs (past and present).

Sorry, I didn't say my three!

I don't know if I can pick three! Zoe Ball's tango made me jump up down cheering. Other adrenalin rush moments from SCD are um... Matt di Angelo's salsa and Ramps' salsa. Goughie's Paso in the final when he put his all into it. See, I love those ones. They don't have to be the best in a technical way, just feeling as though I've got into the zone with the dancers. But you kinda sound like you mean tender emotion, not rollercoaster stuff, OP.

Gethin's waltz made me cry like a baby.

I do, only because it catches me off guard every time I have found tears rolling down my cheeks, so in a way I could understand what BirthdayGirl was getting at.

I get it too. I think when the dancer expresses vulnerability in their performance, that's when it gets me. It's um... the ultimate in putting yourself out there, isn't it? Alesha had that quality in the ballroom, didn't she?

I agree. It's the first time this year when someone's dancing touched me emotionally. That was fantastic!

I didn't like Ricky's waltz at all.

I did love Matthew and Alesha's waltz and Rachel and Vincent's waltz from past series.

I cried at Ricky and Natalie's Waltz last night, a truly beautiful and emotional dance set to one of my favourite songs. It was stunning.

I also had a tear in my eye at Alesha and Matthew's Waltz.

I'm struggling to think of a 3rd, I've got loads of dances that I've loved and cheered for and jumped up screaming and applauding about, I'll get back to you on that!
