Where can I buy DVDs that will work in Region 4?
Hi all,
Any help greatly appreciated... My brother lives in Oz and has asked me to buy him Gavin and Stacey Series 3 for Christmas- he's stated that it will need to work in region 4. Having looked on Amazon, I see that the DVD available on there only works in Zone 2. This seems to be the same on the BBC website. Any ideas where I can get hold of a dual 2/4 format disc or a region 4 one?

You coulf buy him one of these for around the same price as the DVD set I just checked the BBC Blue Planet DVD set and it's region 0 (It will play anywhere in the world) |

Most DVD players these day have a remote hack to disable region codeing. Ask him to google multiregion hack for his DVD player.

While BBC documentary dvd's may well be Region 0 its not usual for something like Gavin & Stacey to be .
However - very often BBC DVD's are coded for R2 and R4 - most Dr Who (classic) are. I would ask around and find someone who has the discs to see if they are coded for R4 too using their PC. |

Unlesss your brother in Australia has a Sony Dvd player- you will probably find that his player is already multi-region.
The reason for this, is that many years ago, the Australian government went to court against the Hollywood studios to protest about the Region coding of dvds- as it was felt that Australian customers were being exploited by the Studios- and forced to buy more expensive Australian dvd releases. The studios argued that they needed to Region code, in order to protect against piracy of the lastest releases between territories, - but the Australian government pointed out that back catalogue titles were also being region locked- in spite of those titles not subject to piracy concerns. As a result of the court case - dvd players sold in Australia had to be multi-region straight out of the box. Every manufacturer is thought to have complied with the legal ruling .............apart from Sony. |
