As far as Westlife or other bands like that go some of them actually worked hard for along time before that. I remember Take That on the Hitman & Her if you remember that show a couple of years before they even made a dent on the charts. The reason i watched Hitman & Her was because I picked up on a lot of club tracks long before they were hits. The comparison of Big Brother to X-Factor is way wide of the mark it's a totally different type of show.”

It's not though, is it.
Someone turning up to audition in front of Cowell with a guitar and a song of their own composition, they'd be told to piss off and come back without the guitar to do a Boyzone cover.
It's not about finding talented singer-songwriters - an example of one is Alistair Griffin - very talented guy but Fame Academy was the wrong vehicle for him.
Boyzone and Westlife and truly manufactured and I won't be told otherwise, Nigel Martin Smith spent a long time plugging Take That - they did a U18 night at a local club, I saw them in my early teens in the small town in which I grew up.
Although I'm as keen on Take That, Westlife etc as I am on that old man who keeps sticking his thumbs up and grinning
