Nice timing for DS to split it. 'The' Ratings Thread? Interesting.
![]() Worth noting something from 'all 3 shows', X Factor, SPOTY and Boyle is trending on Twitter. |

God sake Admin - splitting this thread after the biggest ratings event of the year! Could have waited another day surely! To quote AgentF (as I now can't): Quote:
My word, ITV are definitely taking advantage - third ad break in 35 minutes.
Yes, but the Winner Songs part must have been over half an hour uninterrupted with both Olly and Joe performing, their best bits and messages from family, with George Michael performing too. I'm guessing that was definately structured to stop people turning over as SPOTY reached it's climax (though in the end their announcement was pretty much perfectly timed, fitting into the 9pm ad break). Some good guest performances tonight on The X Factor, but over the weekend the final has been let down by a lack of original performances. With the audition piece, the judges choice and the contestants choice three of the five performances were things we'd heard before - and to top it all we have what has to be the worst winners song ever. I'm so glad for Olly he doesn't have to release that - ridiculous that viewers would vote for him for one reason, and then all of that would have been stripped away if it was his single. |

The woman reporting on ITV News still throwing around the 20m figure....
I know, something revolutionary: SuBo higher than X Factor, anyone? (of course, I'm joking somewhat, but still...) |

Last year: 8m votes for the Final, 16m for the Series.
From the way Dermot said it, I assume its 10m votes for the Final. |

I reckon 15.3m average (or thereabouts) with a peak just over 16m.

A much better show tonight - lots of great guests & it flowed much better tonight , compared to yesterday - it flt like it was only on for an hour!! plus the right person won! ![]() I can just imagine tomorrow's breaking news banner !! " X Factor Final watched by 60 million people" ![]() ( that was just for Robbie btw!! )

Very good show tonight, the finalists weren't exactly the most inspiring duo we've ever seen but the 2 hour broadcast went by at a good pace. George Michael was maybe a bit dull but apart from that it was all good.
The result was announced pretty much bang on 9.15pm. So that could mean the 15 minute peak will be 9pm-9.15pm. Not sure where the ads were scheduled in that? DS will probably take out the last 5 minutes as it finished at 9.25pm. |

It was pretty good. Still think it should go back to one night for the final next year as overall the splitting experiment didn't work.

Have to agree with the rest of you in saying that the 2 hours flew by and was very entertaining. I do doubt that it will have WOW ratings tomorrow, but it will still have a series high (unlike last night!)

Watched about the last 1hr15 of XF, which is about as long as I've sat down with it all series. I can't agree that it went at a particularly quick pace: winners song, judges comments, speak to contestant, "journey" montage, speak to contestant, friends and family montage, speak to contestant again, speak to mentor, speak to screaming crowd people - and then do the whole inane thing again
![]() I suppose it was clever to have the long period without an ad break to try and build constant momentum for the final part. I'll perhaps round down my average prediction from this morning to 15m+ as an average - but the peak should still be BGT massive - maybe 17-18m or so. |

Macca was on just after 9pm IIRC. They did have a break before the result as they closed the lines after Paul's performance didn't they?

No doubt ITV will have trounced SPOTY by at least 3 to 1 tonight, but in my opinion they shot themselves in the foot with this clash. I intended to channel hop, as I enjoy both shows, but just as X Factor was trying to whip up the usual mass hysteria at the start, SPOTY was giving an award to Maj. Phil Packer who raised over £1 million for Help for Heroes by completing the London Marathon in 13 days following serious injuries in Iraq.
It was a stark comparison, and I never switched back to X Factor. I think SPOTY was very impressive this evening, and had me in tears more than once. I think it is the first time I've ever voted for the winner. I'm not knocking X Factor. It's great entertainment, and I'm glad to see ITV winning big audiences. They've had a tough time in the recession, and I for one can remember what the BBC was like before ITV launched. Just next year, I would like to see them play down the mass adulation, especially for the judges. As someone said earlier, they haven't found a cure for cancer. People of my age who have lived through some dark times are a bit scared of this mass hysteria. SPOTY had a few real heroes tonight who justified a standing ovation. Not so X Factor. |

Speaking of that I saw the Davina advert for Got To Dance during The Xtra Factor tonight.
