I heard there was a major glitch with Sunday's overnights, apparently some BARB boxes were sending out rogue signals resulting in an over-reading for certain shows. They had to check everything this morning in case Amanda Holden's new show came out with 12m, which frankly nobody would have believed...

Hiya long time lurker of this thread although I don't post but I do find it very interesting and informative. Sorry to barge it but I wondered what you thought about the new series of Hustle being scheduled for Mondays at 9pm, from 4 January. I know it did really well its in Thursday slot earlier this year. Not sure what its up against either - any ideas?

I'm not sure what your point is Robbie. It wasn't Christmas Day on Sunday AFAIK.

ETA I'm not 'discounting' the ratings, I'm just suggesting that scoring ratings winners throughout the day isn't some incredible feat when it's on Xmas Day.

Hi and welcome. It's up against the first episode of the new Above Suspicion 3 parter on ITV1, so a tough start for it.

Thanks. I hope it holds up well, cos I think Adrian Lester thought they were going to get confirmation of another series - at least thats what he said on Paul O Grady recently. I suppose it depends on ratings as usual.

I can see it doing OK. Above Suspicion will probably beat it but Monday is the best day for dramas traditionally and they could possibly appeal to different audiences as Hustle is a more light hearted affair compared to your murder and crime in Above Suspicion.

Thought it might be interesting to discuss what we feel the future of TV is in the next decade. Will linear TV still be the norm in 2020? Or will it all be on demand? It's a tough call.

Event TV still exists. Shows like The X Factor can't not be shown live. But dramas and other things people increasingly prefer to watch when they can.

I predict HD will be the norm by 2020. i.e. the majority of sets will be HD and nearly all programmes in the schedule will be HD. We may even be in the age of majority 3D! I think linear schedules will remain but be less important, but that catchup/PVR will be far more consolidated under one umbrella.

I don't think we're going to see a switch to people watching on computers. It's not the same as watching on a far larger screen in your lounge. It's going to be more about convenience, surely?

Perhaps TV sets will have built in catchup service for all the broadcasters, sort of like a hybrid of the various offerings at the moment, in addition to the live channels. For channels like ITV, you can either watch for free or a subscription based model gives you all shows ad-free (Spotify-esque)

It's hard to know. Thinking about it, it's so interesting. I'd love to think in the future TV will still be a huge part of people's lives and the days of big numbers are not coming to an end too fast.

Schedule wise, it's impossible to guess where will be. Will the current big hitters still exist? Will the soaps have been increased, scaled back or shelved entirely? Will the UK be more like America with its pilot / long-season orders?

And what about ratings? Will the BARB system still be in force or something more universally accurate?

It's fascinating to imagine how the landscape will change. At the minute it's so difficult to tell where it's going.

Digiguide has updated for the second week of January and there are some interesting things:

CSI starts on the 12th January
CSI: NY starts on the 9th January
NCIS starts on 10th January
Numb3rs starts on 10th January
Paul Merton in Europe is on 15th January

NCIS along with Numb3rs moving to Wednesdays is interesting but the day was underpeforming and I imagine the ad revenue on Wednesdays are higher than on Fridays, Paul Merton in Europe on Thursday is interesting as I expected to go on Mondays but with no football in January, I guess Five are confident it can compete with Silent Witness and The Bill whereas Mondays it would had to competed with Hustle and I suspect Law and Order UK.

A blow for the BBC I would say. Are the BBC trying to revive property porn then? Thats so nu Labor.

Robson Green deserves a lot of credit. Not many shows can retain 100% of its audience throughout its run.

Interesting post, and an interesting future to come. Broadcast and webcast/on-demand is converging fast. I tend to agree that people will still want big screens, but reckon that they will also become family computers. The Media Centre PC's day will come, but without the PC bit, I reckon - it'll all be embedded in the telly.

It was scheduled as a mid-season replacement - ie. would have been arriving some time early in the new year. But I heard that it got canned because ABC were struggling to find any celebrities to take part.

Not that this has stopped celebrity shows before now

Bet365 I think. Odds for Eastenders have got a lot worse, they were 4/11 at one point.

A bit stupid to publish a list like this with two weeks left. X Factor is going to improve as will SCD, Doctor Who and maybe Eastenders. Plus the Royle Family and something else may get over 10m.
