It could be good for the Bill considering the percentage share.

Even a share of 1 in 6 (16.6%) should get over 4.5m (its highest rating since the relaunch) and if it pushes 19% as it has done occasionally 5m shouldn't be out of the question. As you say 26.7% for BBC1 is a great share but a lot less than New Tricks was used to.

Looking at the high ratings all week should this now be called snow week in comparison to last years snow day? DoI preview show should do well tonight, ITV have been trailing it not as a preview show but as the opening show so anything over 7m should be possible and with a Corrie lead in could it possibly get 10m???

Damn there was a Broadcast article you could read before they quickly made it private but IIRC it had 4.2m viewers.

If so, and considering Silent Witness' share that is really bad for the Bill, to only get just over 4m when there are almost 28m watching TV is dire.

Last night's episode of The Bill had 4.3m and a 15% viewing share. Black Market Britain at 10.35pm had 2m and a 13% share

Even though i prefer the new bill to the old one I think it really needs to be put out of its misery once these final 30 (?) episodes have aired and let ITV start a new strategy in the Autumn. With Paul O'Grady moving to Fridays I think ITV should concentrate Drama on Mondays and Thursdays, with Mondays more suited to thrillers and crime and Thursdays more suited to lighter hearted stuff like Benidorm and Doc Martin repeats in the summer. Fridays can then be opened up purely to entertainment with Piers Morgan's life stories also moving there, alternating with Paul O'Grady. Tuesdays can be used for travelogues and Wednesdays for 2 hour dramas. With Sundays having drama only when X Factor and DoI are both on air and then in the summer show movies or MM, AC, FW repeats.

Emmerdale topped 9 million

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s1...9-million.html

The second of the two Emmerdale episodes got 9.03 million viewers, with the first ep getting 8.3 million.

Its the first time an episode of Emmerdale has gained over 9 million since February 2007.

Well done to them, but i think that thats deffo because it was after EE, then just before Corrie.

But the second ep is always in that position and never normally gets figures close to Corrie and EE.

I know its mainly to do with the weather, but hopefully the show will gain some new long term viewers.

But EE and Corrie have also been boosted by the snow. Some of Emmerdale's increase is down to the weather but it does help that it was on in between the bigger soaps which were also boosted. I bet if that episode aired at 7pm it wouldn't have seen the 9m viewers it did last night.

Excellent performance though. The soaps have done fantastically all week.

It surely can't be that Emmerdale gained those viewers due to their own merit and because people actually wanted to watch Emmerdale

An outstanding rating for Silent Witness.

I think that's a bit unfair davey_wavey. I'm loving Emmerdale at the mo but I can see it's been boosted like all soaps by the weather and that being in between EE and Corrie does help that second Thurs ep last night moreso than ever.

I think the problem with Jay Leno is the lead in he's getting. If his show was on CBS, he'd be getting lead-ins of between 12m and 15m from the NCIS and CSI franchises. Instead, he's left with lead-ins of between 5m and 8m with shows such as Heroes, 30 Rock and Law and Order.

Regarding our of chat show situation, I think the problem with Jonathan Ross was over exposure. In a normal week, you'd catch him in three places - Raido 2, Film 2009 and Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. I think this led to him ending up stale and repetitive, and he also looked liked he wasn't really enjoying himself that much any more.

Therefore, I think they should have alternating hosts in the Friday 10:35pm slot, as it would give the slot some variety. As I suggested yesterday, and as others have been suggesting here, Graham Norton and Dara O'Briain would be the perfect combination, with each getting about 2 x 11 episode runs a year.

Does Emmerdale get a big boost in the finals vs. overnights? Seem to recall that it goes up by about 500k - is that right?

Not surprised CBB dropped again with the political stuff over and the news going back to concentrating on the snow. Still steady though, and an average of over 3m for the first week of highlights shows is something they'd have taken beforehand.

On to the regional news and this weeks ratings show that those who suggested that viewers would no longer be interested in regional news come digital switchover are being proved completely wrong. It was a myth that never had any substance, and I never got why OFCOm and the Government seemed to fall for it.

A bit of a surprise this - C4 will show the Paralympic games in 2012. I think like me many assumed it was a given the BBC would screen them, and be the only ones interested in screening them.

Quote:
“The deal with Channel 4 includes multi-platform broadcast rights within the UK, with non-exclusive rights in the Republic of Ireland. Channel 4 will produce and screen two peak time 10 part documentaries in 2011 and 2012, building the stories of the athletes and their journey to the London 2012 Paralympic Games. It will also include dedicated coverage of the Paralympic Torch Relay and will be supported by the biggest marketing campaign in the broadcaster’s history.

Channel 4 will also cover key disability sports and sporting events, in the run up to the Paralympic Games in 2012.

At Games-time, Channel 4 will deliver over 150 hours of coverage of the Paralympic Games, with over 130 hours on their core channel (Channel 4). Paralympic sport has never had this level of exposure in the UK. The coverage will be led by a flagship peak-time show, and extensive coverage will also be provided on mobile and online. Subtitling and audio description will form part of all the programming, ensuring the widest possible audience can enjoy the Games.”

(Thanks to Blake Connelly at TV Forum).

Will be interesting to see how it does for them, and indeed could be good for the Paralympic Games to have a broadcaster solely focused on covering their event as at the BBC it would obviously be an after thought to the Olympics.

Does anyone have any ratings for ITV daytime? Mainly for This Morning, but would love to know how everything does if possible.

Soap figures from last night:

7.00pm Emmerdale: 8.3m (32.3%)
7.30pm EastEnders: 10.7m (40.1%)
* BBC Three @ 10pm: 0.83m (3.5%)
8.00pm Emmerdale: 9.03m (33.2%)
8.30pm Coronation Street: 10.7m (37.9%)

Very high numbers all round.

Can anyone find out: how the News bulletins at 10pm did on BBC ONE and ITV1, and also how CBB did on Ch4+1?

I hate how Ch4 Sales is no longer updating. Shoddy.

Got my hands on a marketing magazine and there are some interesting figures in it.

ITV's cost per thousand viewer is £30 for ITV Player and £10 for ITV1.

However, at the moment they don't run as many adverts during a programme on ITV Player.

BBC1's regional news at 6.30pm attracted 9.1 million viewers and a 36.4% share, following the 6pm national bulletin, which drew 6.7 million and 28.9%.

ITV1's regional news picked up 5.3million viewers and a 22.8% share at 6pm, while the channel's national bulletin at 6:30pm also drew 5.3 million, a 21.5% share.

BBC1's 10pm news bulletin picked up 6.5m viewers and a 26.8% share, while ITV's News at Ten drew 3.6m and 15.2%.

According to Broadcast, BBC insiders have categorically ruled out Graham Norton replacing Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
