Thanks again dubsj. Fantastic for the soaps, but interesting to see that EastEnders is still slightly ahead. That's a fantastic rating for 8 Out of 10 Cats, to equal ther 9pm BB is superb for it.

Thanks dubsj!

Excellent night for all really.

SW down, but as expected considering the tough ITV1 and CH4 competition.

The big two still above 10m and it's amazing how consistent they (all 3 soaps infact) have been this week. Usually there is a big gap between the highest and lowest episodes. Overall a fantastic week for all 3 soaps and in turn a fantastic start to the year for them.

Glad 8OTC did so well-it had me in stitches more than a comedy has done in a long time. It seemed as sharp as ever and deserves to do well.

Anything for the BBC1 opposition against ITV's soaps dubsj? QOS, Impressions and QI?? Thanks.

Interesting that EastEnders is still ahead of Corrie, despite being well past the holiday period when the ITV soap usually takes the lead. Good ratings for the soaps once again, as ZoeM notes they've been extremely consistent this week.

Dancing on Ice did well for what it was, and knocked down Silent Witness by nearly a million. SW should hold its audience next week better, though, with Popstar to Opera Star up against it. CBB did okay, it could have been worse I suppose. But excellent rating for 8 Out of 10 Cats especially as the last series was hovering around 2m (iirc).

Poor debut for SCDOI - on this evidence, perhaps copying SCD's Friday launch idea wasn't the smartest ruse after all. SCD managed 8.5m I recall and that was against Corrie too, so no excuses for ITV - they massively promoted last night as the launch of the series "DOI returns Friday", and last night's figures are snow-enhanced too, whereas SCD launched in a warm September.

Brilliant for SW to win a very competitive slot.

Be interested to see Regional News and QI figures when we have them.

As for tonight, I think BBC1 should run the 10.10 news on by 5 mins, have Gary announce that a shortened MOTD will follow at 11.05 and then slot in a half-hour ep of something like Live from the Apollo at 10.35; the brief highlights of whatever football league games go ahead will follow at 11.40, essentially the slot it was scheduled for. I expect, though, that MOTD will stay at 10.30 with Football League highlights at 11pm, a film slotted in at say 11.30pm.

As for the afternoon, could BBC1 stay with the darts till 4.50pm, then announce the footy results and go to an extended news at say 5.05pm?

Earth calling Robbie - it was a preview show not the debut? Maybe something was distracting you while you were watching DOI last night? 6.3m for a one hour trailer aint bad IMHO.

2 good matches involving top 4 teams but the BBC want to piss them away in a shortened show? Dont think so. Why bother paying close to £2m per match day for rights if they cant bother with more than 30 minutes highlights - that would mean that MOTD would cost £4m per hour tonight - more expensive than a full TXF weekend - crazy.

Wasn't last night's Dancing on Ice more like the Strictly Come Dancing Preview shows which used to be shown before every series? Those Strictly previews used to get around 6m iirc, so DOI is on par with that.

The actual contestants weren't dancing, were they? So I dunno how it can be directly compared to the Strictly Come Dancing launch.

Yeah, your right, it was like the SCD preview shows that they used to do (but dropped last year for some reason). Unlike those, it was live, but really it was mostly clips of previous series, and an introduction to the contestants, so 6.5m is excellent for what was just a puff piece for Sunday. Comparing it to Strictly's Friday launch like Robbie has is ridiculous. The two Strictly preview shows they did, in 2007 and 2008 got 4.7m and 6m respectively.

Comparing the Sunday show with SCD's Friday launch will be fairly accurate though. You say it aired on a warm Friday: it aired at 8.30pm (hardly light and warm in September) and (iirc) it was raining. More spin Robbie.

ITV obviously had high hopes for it given the massive promotion. Was it promoted as "a cheap and tatty preview show"? Er, no. And it was live, before an audience, with couples on the ice.

I suspect most on here expected it to comfortably win its slot - eg:

Silent Witness probably dented, but CBB I think will have its lowest rating of the series for Show #1.”

...and when people were doing their predictions this week for the nightly 9pm battle, I think most had tonight down as an ITV win.

Aren't they only allowed to show [X] minutes maximum from each game? Perhaps they might agree a special dispensation with the PL/Sky to show extended highlights?

Seems like many people didn't realise DOI was live... saying that 6.3m is still a great result. Brilliant rating also for Silent Witness.

CBB held up very well, with respectable numbers, even if they do include +1. Soaps did well, again.

Yes the previews were all originally designed to say "Dont watch ITV1, watch BBC1 instead" but Archie vetoed them

the couples only skated from the side of the ice rink to the centre, much as you might skate home from the pub after a few beers

Erm, why would ITV promote anything as 'a cheap and tatty preview show'? Maybe Strictly should launch ill a show dedicated to the couples' entrance, clips from previous series and a pro performance. If it got 6.5m I'd eat my hat. As for most people expecting it to comfortably win the slot, the average prediction for it on the RPG was 6.1m. There wasn't a Silent Witness prediction for last night, but I'd imagine most imagined a similar number to that, so not for DOI to comfortably win at all.

2008 scd preview 6m 33% share

The big difference with it and doi preview show is that scd didnt have an 11m inheritance and that it was on an warm september evening instead of an snow day.

SCD wasnt promoted as the series opener like ITV sneakily did. If the beeb had done this, it would be rightly condemned but because ITV did for some strange reason there is no criticism on this thread.I wonder why

In an week where DIY SOS REPEATS are getting 4m plus against an episode of CORRIE 6.3M ISNT that impressive actually its an bit of disappointment

Anyone got BB figures without +1?

I'm amazed to see it holding up so well, it's nice to see the decline has finally halted For now at least.

CBB did badly last night. What an appalling share!

Shame as the series is good.

all down to great plots IMO, i stopped watching EE last year, but then watched this years xmas special (largely because nothing else was on) but was hooked by the plot. And have tuned in for a lot of epsiodes since.

Where possible, I've put the change in ratings from the previous series in brackets.

There may well be shows not there that I've missed, but I think I've got most of the new - its just something I've compiled as the year went on. Hope its useful.

DS have reported different ratings to that for some reason. They claim the second Corrie episode had 11m.

Read: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/infor...uracy-faq.html

Quote:
“Example 2
If a programme ends at 08:27, will the last 5-minute 'block' of audience data be 08:20-08:25 or 08:25-08:30?

Using the rounding explained above, a programme ending at 08:27 would use the 08:20-08:25 as its last 'block' of audience data.”

DS misses out the last 5 minute block as the programme finished before 20:57:30 last night.

Surely the biggest problem for (channel) Five is that the owners aren't spending enough money on it?

They were prepared to bankroll a huge bid for Neighbours, but the purse has been well and truly buried in the handbag since then.

As owners, you can't expect your channel to compete on a budget of around £150m a year (perhaps even less).

They don't do that when EastEnders finishes early, though.

It would be better not to adjust any overnights, and if the agency only supplies doctored ratings, better to obtain them from a different source.
