If Sky can track how many people sky+ a programme, can they not track how many people are viewing what channel at a time?

They can (and do) have a sample of 200,000 STBs but they've never published the results. The problem with monitoring STBs is that they can't monitor how many people are in the room watching (or, indeed, if the TV is even switched on!). So, the results would have a "systematic bias" towards homes with less people (because an individual's viewing habits would be scaled up, and a family's viewing habits would be scaled down), which would make them unsuitable for extrapolation...

Oh right that explains it. Thanks

Very impressive year-to-date averages for the soaps. I suppose the shares reveal the impact of the snow, but its very impressive that EastEnders has risen regardless. Stringing the stoyline out from Christmas to the Anniversary in February appears to have been an inspired move. I expect Corrie will the aiming to do something similar in the build up to its 50th.

Mediocre for Popstar to Operastar, though not exactly surprising. It was always one of those shows that could have got literally anything between 3 and 6 million.

Personally, I couldn't give a monkeys what CBB got, but it does seem to have retained a higher profile this year. I was struck by the casual discussion of it between Jonathan Ross and Catherine Tate on his chatshow last night. I don't recall BB being a topic of conversation (at least on a non-C4 show) in that way for quite some time.

I'm getting crosser and crosser at the lack of CBB ratings.

Ah, that makes some sense now. IIRC, Sky do sometimes issue some figures saying what %age of Sky homes were tuned in to a certain Sky programme. I guess they have to make that judgement based on households - regardless of how many is watching in each one.

Why?

Getting mad on an internet forum isn't going to speed up ratings...

Not bad for Popstar To Operastar, 4m across 90 mins on a Friday night is decent against strong drama competition on BBC1. Just going back a few days to Married, Single, Other, and it looks like it's going on Mondays as in an article today The Sun refers to Marco's Kitchen Burnout as starting 'next month,' and that was commissioned to go on Fridays. Therefore, with every day except Monday and Tuesday taken, I guess it'll be going on Mondays, as Tuesdays seems to be reserved for factual stuff. I notice Piers Morgan on... is being replaced by Amanda Holden's Fantasy lives on the 26th. It looks like a complete waste of airtime to me and I'm sure it'll flop.

How rude. With it being the weekend, and therefore none of the main sites updating (DS may at some point), if it wasn't for certain posters such as Dubsj, MattJKR, Rzt etc, we wouldn't get any ratings at the weekend so I'd stop getting angry right now if I were you. If you're so desperate then subscribe to one of BARB's outlets yourself.

Very disappointing for Popstar To Operastar if it only got 4 million. It lost well over 6 million of its Corrie lead-in and has been made towards attracting that older skewing audience that Corrie has.

Shame about Popstar to opera star as it was nice to see something different from ITV for a change
and no simon cowell is a bonus so hoping that will see a rise next week.

Good figures for the soaps again Emmerdale really doing well and corrie doing fine but it seems as if no one is talking about Corrie anymore?

Another Amazing figure from EastEnders.
am I right in saying Enders has not fallen below 10m so far this year and has topped 11m 3 times?
I was sure corrie would be back on top as i thought DOI would dent Enders alittle.

Btw is this the longest Eastenders has maintained it's lead on corrie?

Don't think DS'll report them today.

James J is quite right to be annoyed. If DS can report last night's soap figures, then it should be able to report the rest of the ratings. Surely they're all coming from the same source. Or do BARB reveal the ratings one programme at a time with a long pause in-between, like Schofield or Brucie revealing who's safe and will be back next week at the end of Dancing On Ice or Strictly.

We dont have a god given right to get ratings. We are lucky to get anything on a weekend.

Apparently BB got 3.4 million on Thursday, including +1. The highest rated non-live episode this series since the first highlights show.

It's funny how Corrie is still getting big ratings but I don't really see or hear people discuss it around me like they were last year.

I said on the soap ratings thread that I think the bad weather brought people back to the soaps but they like what they saw and have been sticking with them. EastEnders' recent ratings have been HUGE!!!

Plus, he'll probably want some kind of guarantee of new commissions from his company.

I assume there's some arrangement for BGT which starts filming next week. It wouldn't be the first time, he did Idol auditions in 2005 without a contract having been signed (while being sued by Simon Fuller).”

Ah. I suppose he's in no hurry. Maybe he'd even be happy signing up for ITV shows on a series-by-series basis?

Yes it seems that people are only talking about EastEnders and Emmerdale and not bothered by corrie(Even though they have good ratings)

Yes i must say im surpised at EastEnders we tend to have a quite Jan so the ratings tend to tail off

Do you reckon EE will keep the momentum up to their anniversary show?

Yes!
Theres loads happening at the moment and it seems to be getting people talking.
Plus we have the return of the Jacksons and The Wedding of ricky and Bianca which should pull in at least 11million.

I think 2010 is going to be a good year for EastEnders unless the new producer makes a mess of it

I thought Popstar to Opeastar would do much better, there was quite a bit of buzz around it. Soap ratings have been excellent recently.

Bit on the low side for Popstar to Opera Star I must admit, although considering we all thought it would flop massively at the beginning it's not a total disaster. Will see how well it holds up next week.

EastEnders is surging ahead which I'm glad to see. Corrie has been in a rut for a long time and now that it's no longer ahead in the ratings it may give everyone at ITV a wake-up call and tell the new producer that they have their work cut out for them.

Cut it back to three episodes a week. I know ITV will say it gets 9 million viewers and tops their ratings when the X Factor isn't on, but this is chicken feed compared with the 18million that used to watch in the glory days.
As for Celeb Big Brother, its audience seems to stick at 2.8 million, which suggests it has a hardcore of fans and the more casual viewers have drifted away. Certainly Channel 4 are right to axe the BB franchise as it is costing them £ 60 m a year, the audience is stuck in a rut and, of course, it can never make anything in DVD sales or be repeated.
