Regarding whether it is a hit, a flop etc. This type of show is never going to be massive in this era of lots of channels, it shouldn't be compared with The X Factor type shows.

Following the Celebrity Specials, they've now started to repeat the most recent series. I think they made 20 episodes in total last year (including the Celebrity Specials and 'Awards' compilations) - one series in the spring, and one in the summer. It looks like they might have decided to shift it to one series in summer 2010 - but have left themselves short in early evening, at least until the Six Nations comes around.

Can't believe they're shifting SYTYCD around so much. It could start at 7pm every week if they just cut out the pointless and done-to-death Live at the Apollo repeats. Next weeks is at 7 because theres no MOTD so the whole schedule, including Apollo, runs later. Why not just keep it consistent and bung a film in where MOTD would be?!

LOL - rubbish argument there - they are two different issues, and although I agree they've got away with axing too much (thanks OFCOM!) as just because regional or kids shows aren't profitable, it doesn't mean ITV shouldn't make them out of the profits of other shows.

However, in the current ad market I think ITV are better off having a few big hits rather than moderate hits throughout the schedule. 15m viewers watching The X Factor results on a Sunday for example is probably of more value to them than three hours of 5m+ dramas during the week.


Nine episodes for the first series and twelve for the second (including the recent celeb specials and awards show). A third 12-part special has been filmed and is expected to air soon.

However, as the UK version so far has been very repetitive it's hard to tell what is a repeat, and what is a new episode just using the same obstacles, same jokes and same Richard Hammond!

What is it about? I haven't heard about this one. It sounds like one of those countdown shows that Channel 4 are so fond of but I can't imagine that being it.

I've been wanting this for a while. And ITV to do it, as well. And for it to be made in Japan, but with Charles narrating it.

Had much more depth and comedy to it than Total Wipeout, and it was over in 30 minutes.

I'd love it to be paired up with You've Been Framed when Harry Hill's TV Burp wasn't on.

It just goes to show you don't have to spend big to get something really great, in such a wrong way obviously.

It would literally be peanuts.

Just been looking at whats ahead on Saturday nights. I'd not noticed there was going to be a series of events going on in May/June:

22nd - Champions League Final (ITV)
29th - Eurovision Song Contest (BBC)

I would presume that means

5th - Britains Got Talent Final (ITV)

They'd surely avoid Eurovision with the final as it could dent the figures pretty substantially. Maybe unless they split it over Saturday and Sunday...?

I'm sure the BBC wouldn't actually mind the latter option. BGT would probably run 7-9 or something, after which Eurovision could recover a decent nightly share for BBC One. They could also get away with pulling Doctor Who (which usually takes a break on Eurovision week) and remove that from the path of the steamroller. There's a fair chance DW could see some audience "churn" with the new series. They'll want to support it and avoid difficult clashes where possible.

Also, I suppose Over the Rainbow will have to wait till after the World Cup and run up until Strictly Come Dancing returns?

The 5th makes sense for the Britain's Got Talent final as that's the end of half term week - the Final week has always been Half Term week. The 29th will be the final auditions show probably. Doctor Who could be aired from 7.05-7.50 (followed by the Lottery) and Britain's Got Talent'll start at 8, clashing directly with Eurovision.

Over the Rainbow is a more interesting proposition. So You Think You Can Dance? has...three shows left? That's take us up to 13th February. BBC could air the Eurovision Special there. It's a bit early but it gets it out of the way. I think it's a one off rather than a series. Then Over the Rainbow is...12 shows long? If they start it from the 20th February that'll take it upto 15th May - then there's a two week gap until Eurovision itself. Of course, they could always have filler for the week of February 27th, and start the show on March 7th, meaning it'd finish right in time for Eurovision.

They've got Lets Dance to run in March too though around the date for Sports Relief.

Plus, I'm not sure Over the Rainbow would be ready - and how could the schedule both Doctor Who and OTR on the same Saturdays so they both avoided BGT?

If they wait until after BGT, then theres no space before the World Cup - but there is about 10 weeks (or perhaps as many as 12 if SCD gets shortened) after it.

What about Let's Dance? I imagine OTR will be in March like Any Dream will Do and I'd Do Anything.

The only way they could do this would probably be by pushing Doctor Who into that gastly 6:20 slot that it had back in 2008.

I'd forgotten about Let's Dance. They've started the auditions for Over the Rainbow, I read it on the Reality TV forum. They could be ready for late February/early March but Let's Dance will take the slot then.

Of course, what I'd forgotten was with I'd Do Anything they did have a show on Eurovision night but aired it early and dropped Doctor Who for a week so it's possibel they'd do it again. The Results Show were on Sundays, a la Strictly Come Dancing 2008.

So they could work it as:

Trouble with that is it'd mean the Final would be up against England's opening match in the World Cup (if ITV win the rights. If BBC gain the rights, then it'd be a scheduling nightmare). Considering it has to contend with Britian's Got Talent and The Champions League Final as well it's not good.

They won't cut Let's Dance back because Sport Relief weekend is 19th-21st March, so the final will most likely be on the 20th.

The other option they have (as already stated) is hang back with Over the Rainbow until the World Cup finishes. So it could be:

Graham wont be able to otr and eurovision the same night, i think lets dance is only 4 episodes long and i heard through the grapevine that the selection is on the 20th of feb.

Oh yeah, because Terry was doing Eurovision in 2008, hence I'd Do Anything could be on the same time. I'm so dumb sometimes.

Though I couldn't see BBC1 wanting Over the Rainbow to clash or be moved all around the houses for the football on June 12th anyway.

Lets Dance being shortened to four episodes doesn't change much because I imagine they'd still want the final on 20th March as that is Sports Relief weekend.

I reckon they will hold Over the Rainbow back until post World Cup as craig-maclellan suggested. Either OTR could be cut by a couple of weeks so it fits in before Strictly (if Strictly is the same length as 2009) or Strictly could be shortened by a couple of weeks - maybe a couple of couples dropped, or double eliminations in the series?

Another factor is that Andrew Lloyd Webber is busy with Love Never Dies which previews in the West End in February and opens in March but I think holding it back until Summer wouldn't be a bad idea as I imagine The Wizard of Oz won't open until November/December and it'll still be fresh in people's minds when it comes nearer opening.

They could move the results show for OTR to Sundays but it didn't work that well when they did it with IDA. Isn't Eurovision commentary done at TVC so Graham could do the live show for OTR and then do Eurovision afterwards provided Doctor Who is given the week off.

That outcome is probably the most likely and realistic.

A good alternative is to have the BGT live shows during the week of the Champions League Final. The 5 semi finals would be shown Monday - Friday and have a break for Saturday for the football and then have the big final on May 23rd. ITV could have another one of their 'Big Weekends' or in this occasion a 'Big Week' if they throw in some specials and make sure there are big storylines going on in Emmerdale and Corrie. The advertisers would love that.


I didn't know 'Lets Dance' was returning. That was a great little show last year. I'm just wondering how the BBC are going to do this AND 'Your Country Needs You' because broadcasters taking part in Eurovision have to select their songs by Sunday March 14th.

The way things are looking it could be that YCNY could only be a one-off special this year on February 20th with Lets Dance being on from February 27th until March 20th.

The commentary is done from a commentary booth live from the arena, however, it can be done from TVC if there is some special reason why the commentator can't actually be at the event. But I don't think it would be the same if it was just done in some poky little hovel in TVC, it's better doing the commentary from the actual venue

It is heavily rumoured that YCNY will be right after SYTYCD, so I don't really know how to fit Let's Dance there as well. So, really, the only option is to cut YCNY to one show in style of previous years.

I wonder what the format of YCNY will be if it is just going to be 1 show this year.

On the other hand, they could have the show stripped across the week going from Monday February 15th until Saturday February 20th.

Either way, the ratings for YCNY 2009 were mediorce at best (4m - 6m), so it'll be interesting to see if there will be an improvement this year depending on who the composer is going to be.
