BBC seem to be in a slight Saturday scheduling head-ache reading the discussion above...

"EastEnders: E20 has been viewed nearly 600,000 times since it launched a week ago, Broadcast can reveal..." (more detail available if anyone is a subscriber!

Are we allowed to post subscription articles in full here. Anyway here is the main bit of the article which is about ratings...

"So far there have been more than 174,000 views of the first episode, released on Friday 8 January, and just under 108,000 views of the second episode, released the day after.

The E20 site, which hosts behind the scenes clips and information about the new characters has been accessed a further 315,000 times since it launched on New Year’s Day, bringing the total number of views to 597,000."

I would say it has been a bit of a flop, considering the size audience of normal EastEnders.

Very good numbers there for effectively a spin-off show.

Hmmmm, Jana Bennet claims that the 2.4m timeshift for DW was for PVRs only (perhaps she's referring to the Jan1 episode (or maybe totalling both Xmas shows?), which we haven't seen the officials for yet?)

From ITV Insider's Twitter:

18:45 - Dancing On Ice: 8.4m (31%)
* last week: 9m (31%)

So down 0.6m on last week, but I suspect the early finish may have brought the average down a bit...

Looks like 8 Out of 10 Cats is getting a 10 minute extension once CBB finishes.

Quote:
“QUIZ SHOW: 8 Out of 10 Cats
On: Channel 4 (4)
Date: Friday 5th February 2010 (starting in 18 days)
Time: 22:00 to 22:45 (45 minutes long)

8 Out of 10 Cats is an irreverent, irrelevant and revealing weekly topical panel show based on a huge series of opinion polls carried out around Britain.

Don't think that constitutes a flop. They're decent numbers for a spinoff that is very niche in who it's aiming for to start with. Of course the figures could still build as all of the previous episodes are still available on the website. And it would be interesting to see how much the Red Button and iPlayer showings boost these figures, if any.

There are some Sunday ratings on Broadcast for those who have a sub. No details in the headline though...

Yes but the 600,000 seems to indicate an episode, but for the two episodes, it dropped significantly in the second episode, then they added the views to the actual E20 website which doesnt mean they watched a full episode.

SUNDAY RATINGS :

BBC 1
Countryfile - 6.7m
Antiques Roadshow - 6.7m (final 15min 7.2m)
Lark Rise - 6.2m
Wallander - 4.4m

BBC Two
Snooker - 2.8m

Channel 4
Big Brother - 2.5m (+1 503,800)
Slumdog Millionaire - 2m (+1 220,400)

ITV 1
Dancing On Ice - averaged 8.5m. peak 9.7m at 7.50pm
Wild At Heart - 7m
Skate Off - 6.9m

The Channel 4 figures are without +1, ive put them in brackets so then add the +1 yourselfs

I dunno I think even if each ep only had 100k views that's not bad for what it is. It was never going to appeal to the mainstream EE viewer and get the same sort of figures you'd expect a normal episode to get on iPlayer. I think if they'd made each single episode available on iPlayer as well it would've got more though. It's that first episode curiosity thing, people look to see what it is and if they might like it, not everyone will stick with it for the duration.

Thanks for the Sunday figures btw.

Apparently Countryfile dented Dancing on Ice according to the headline on Broadcast.

Some news which I guess could impact on ratings, and actually good news for the viewers for once. OFCOM are considering allowing broadcasters to air fewer ads in order to reduce supply and hopefully increase demand and drive up prices for ad slots.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...egulation.html

I knew the limit was 168 minutes a day, but wasn't aware broadcasters were obliged to sell all their ad space. Could be a good move and boost ratings (by default) by having less air-time. I don't think for a moment we'll see a massive reduction across the board, but I suspect with things like The X Factor final rather than packing as many ads as possible around it ITV might consider offering fewer ad slots at a premium price.
KennyT

Surely, it will take time to feed through to the ad slots for drama productions (unless they're just going to allow more prog-pointers in the slots?)

Pretty poor for Celebrity Big Brother but I can't say I'm surprised. I imagined myself that it would be on at either 9 or 10 and it was a chance thing really that I checked the listings and spotted the earlier start time.

In the end Slumdog Secret Millionaire did not perform anywhere near as well as Celebrity Big Brother would have done in the same slot so you do have to question whether it was worth it.

Then again, it is an outgoing show but stuff like this just highlights how Channel 4 don't help themselves sometimes.

Over 3 million with the +1 figures. Don't seem too bad to me.

Yes I imagine the higher number of +1 viewers is down to the earlier start time so effectively it did just as well as it has been doing all along taking that into account.

Alright smartypants, obviously I hadn't seen the timeshift figure.

It was still very sloppy scheduling and Ch4's classic method of slinging CBB all over the shop to prop everything else up doesn't really work when viewers end up heading to Ch4+1 in their droves when they realise CBB is not on at the time they expected it to be on.

Of course, it won't even be an option at their disposal for much longer.

Glee on Channel 4:

17:35 Glee Ep 1- 960,000 (4.3%)
18:35 Glee Ep 2- 920,000 (3.6%)
19:35 Glee Ep 2- 131,000 (+1)

Obviously a strong night for ITV, with DOI relatively stable on last week. Looks like fewer were keen to stick around for the skate-off compared to last week though - and that had knock on effects for Wild at Heart.

Countryfile did brilliantly in the 6pm slot and Antiques Roadshow is getting somewhat stronger. Good for Lark Rise too, but Wallander has shed its viewers over its run. Not the sort of thing the BBC air for ratings, though.

The snooker did alright, but I never realised that it was now significantly less popular than the darts which aired a few weeks ago.

Countryfile managed to dint the ratings crown of ITV1’s juggernaut Dancing on Ice last night (17 January), with its episode on grey seals and war tunnels beating the first 15-minutes of the celebrity skating competition into second place.

Would have been better showing some CDWM repeats!

9:30pm is far too late for a family audience, and it has a knock on effect on Wild at Heart as you say.

Either this schedule, similar to 2008's:-
6:00pm Dancing on Ice
7:30pm Wild at Heart
8:30pm Dancing on Ice: The Skate-Off
9:00pm Piers Morgan's Life Stories
10:00pm News at Ten

or a Saturday/Sunday split next year, with the soaps returning to Sunday's too:-

Sat
4:30pm FA Cup Live / Movie Premiere
7:00pm Dancing on Ice
8:30pm Primeval
9:30pm Afterlife
10:30pm The Late News

Sun
4:30pm FA Cup Live
7:00pm Emmerdale
7:30pm Coronation Street
8:00pm Dancing on Ice: The Skate-Off
9:00pm Downton Abbey
10:00pm News at Ten

Thus saving Wild at Heart for Spring and using top reality shows to boost new dramas.
