The snooker did alright, but I never realised that it was now significantly less popular than the darts which aired a few weeks ago.

In the end Slumdog Secret Millionaire did not perform anywhere near as well as Celebrity Big Brother would have done in the same slot so you do have to question whether it was worth it.
Then again, it is an outgoing show but stuff like this just highlights how Channel 4 don't help themselves sometimes. Quote:
It was still very sloppy scheduling and Ch4's classic method of slinging CBB all over the shop to prop everything else up doesn't really work when viewers end up heading to Ch4+1 in their droves when they realise CBB is not on at the time they expected it to be on.

Disappointing it dropped more than a fifth of the audience as ive really got into it recently. Still over a million which is very good considering the competition on the terrestrials. Hopefully it gets a good timeshift as its currently number 1 on iplayer.
The very first episode of season one last year was reported at 603k viewers on the Iplayer. Presumably the rest of the season was lower but it regularly topped the Iplayer chart the next day. |

CBB did very well. Channel 4 weren't making a mistake. They couldn't care less about CBB hence the awful scheduling this week.

DOI's figures are still large but I think the second episode last year was significantly stronger than the first and the reverse has happened this year(that is only a vague memory). It will be interesting to see how the shows figures pan out this time-especially with a hugely long show next week. I get the feeling Wild at Heart would sag quite a bit now if it didnt have the DOI sandwich-7 million is obviously good but I get the feeling its being propped up far more than before. I saw the Snooker through to the end-much to my loss when I had to get up this morning-it was pure theatre, one of the most highly charged games this century. Im not surprised it got good figures. |

Still good figures for the Dancing on Ice performance show. The results show is on too late to attract a huge audience (at this early stage of the competition), but 7m isn't too bad. It's up from the second results show rating from last year (6.7m). Next week will do even worse, though, with Dancing on Ice results starting at 21:45 which is ridiculous. ITV should have had the performance show starting earlier at 6pm like what they did in the 2008 season to ensure the results wouldn't air that late. Wild at Heart's rating is flat year on year, but it's much better suited to a 7:30 or 8pm slot.
Fantastic rating for Countryfile. It's the perfect show to pair up with Antiques Roadshow, and both are doing really well. Despite falling from last week, Lark Rise is pulling in strong numbers and that rating is higher than all but two ratings for the show last year. Pretty low for Wallander- the tough competition definitely dented it, but it's a good drama and it deserves the recommision. Good ratings for the snooker and CBB. I'm impressed that CBB still remained around 3m despite the early start. But I don't think tonight's first episode will do too well due to the soap clash; I reckon it will fall to around 2.5m. |

Still, as you say, the numbers are great for BBC Three, and thats still well up on last series which only averaged in the 700k zone. It's easily their most successful original scripted programme since Gavin and Stacey. I bet it timeshifts well too. Got to Dance still doing good numbers. I guess they'll be hoping for an increase from next week as I take it from a DS news article, that the live show element is about to begin. It needs a bump to be sure that it doesn't stay on the Gladiators trajectory, where it just seemed to keep on losing 50-100k every week. |

Whatever else can be said about the Big Bro franchise, as a reality show it attracts four times as many viewers as pretenders on ITV2, which seem to shuffle off unmourned after one series, and is still talked about a lot. |

Are we allowed to post subscription articles in full here. Anyway here is the main bit of the article which is about ratings...
"So far there have been more than 174,000 views of the first episode, released on Friday 8 January, and just under 108,000 views of the second episode, released the day after. The E20 site, which hosts behind the scenes clips and information about the new characters has been accessed a further 315,000 times since it launched on New Years Day, bringing the total number of views to 597,000." I would say it has been a bit of a flop, considering the size audience of normal EastEnders. you got to think it's really on the younger viewers that are going to watch this online. E20 is now on when you press the red button and is also on I player |

CBB did OK, with a good timeshift figure, although I think C4 made a big mistake here in not putting it on in the 9pm hour. Countryfile has really become a sleeper hit for BBC1 - many people including myself questioned the move but it's proven itself popular. Coupled with Antiques Roadshow and Lark Rise to Candleford it gives a cosy alternative to the Reality TV offering on ITV1. Obviously the long ad break around 8.30pm hurt Wild at Heart as it reduced the power of the lead in. I agree with Chris1964 that it is being held up by Dancing on Ice rather then standing on it's own two feet now. It doesn't help starting later than it should either. Considering Channel 4 appear to be willingly killing off Big Brother now I take perverse pleasure in seeing it hold up so well despite the numerous slots it's being shoved into. Glee did ok in the early evening slots, but was always going to struggle considering the big 2's offerings. Slumdog Secret Millionnaire should've done better I feel considering the lead in and the popilarity of the usual series. Weak for Top Gear (even though it was a repeat). It obviously didn't like the early time slot. The Snooker did ok. Five'll be pleased to get 1m at 9pm while both Being Human and Got to Dance held up well. One question Quote:
20:30 - Wild at Heart: 7m (25%)*** 21.30 to 21.35 was the advert break between Wild at Heart and Dancing on Ice, yet averaged higher than the two programmes. That can't be too common, surely? * 20:35 to 21:30 - 7.01m (25.1%) 21:30 - Dancing on Ice: The Skate Off: 7.1m (27%) * 21:30 to 21:35 - 8.15m (32.5%) * 21:35 to 22:00 - 6.89m (25.9%) ![]()

the e20 ratings, yes I would have hoped for a little more (500,000 maybe) than that.

Do we have a list of Sky1's highest rating programmes available, preferbly for just their UK commissions?
And going of on a tangent but with Glee breaking into the charts this week has it been scheduled on Mondays to try and maximise the time people have to download the tracks (which are made available after each show). |

What happened between 2004 and 2005 which saw the Golden Globes lose 10m viewers?

BBC/Comic Relief/BT are following up Kilimanjaro with The BT Sport Relief Cycle Challenge
David Walliams, Jimmy Carr, Miranda Hart, Fearne Cotton and Davina McCall are going to try and cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End in 4 days. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...Lands-End.html Fearne and Davina have been hinting on Twitter and Davina again on This Morning, so I think its true. |

ITV, though, should win the Sunday all-day shares by a mile really. Also quite rare for ITV's Saturday primetime on a January evening to go from 17:00 to 23:00... and based on Live at the Apollo's rating from this past weekend, ITV might just win the 10pm hour! The weekend is so jammed that TV Burp takes a week off. Thankfully I guess, as it means viewers should distinguish between the 'new' and old series meaning the new series shouldn't be dented ratings wise. Quote:
21.30 to 21.35 was the advert break between Wild at Heart and Dancing on Ice, yet averaged higher than the two programmes. That can't be too common, surely?
![]() ![]() It also proves that as the evening went on towards 10pm, viewers tuned out of ITV1. Unfortunately for them next week, they couldn't possibly move the schedule. |
