As far as I can see, the 2004 awards performed somewhat higher than usual. The 2005 awards were lower due to a clash with Desperate Housewives (when it used to draw 23 million).

15:30 - Regional News
15:45 - FA Cup Live
18:10 - Dancing on Ice
20:45 - Wild at Heart

There's zero room for manoeuvre, especially in Sunday's schedule. ITV, though, should win the Sunday all-day shares by a mile really.

Also quite rare for ITV's Saturday primetime on a January evening to go from 17:00 to 23:00... and based on Live at the Apollo's rating from this past weekend, ITV might just win the 10pm hour!

The weekend is so jammed that TV Burp takes a week off. Thankfully I guess, as it means viewers should distinguish between the 'new' and old series meaning the new series shouldn't be dented ratings wise.

Presumably it proves that the Dancing on Ice and Wild at Heart audiences do not overlap a lot.

It also proves that as the evening went on towards 10pm, viewers tuned out of ITV1. Unfortunately for them next week, they couldn't possibly move the schedule.”

I still think they should split Dancing on Ice over the weekend. It would've boosted the Saturday performance overall which is quite poor. They could've handled next weekend by:

Saturday
12:00 - FA Cup Live
14:55 - FILM:
16:30 - News
17:00 - FA Cup Live
19:15 - Dancing On Ice
21:35 - Take Me Out
22:35 - ITV News
22:55 - FA Cup Highlights

Sunday
13:15 - FA Cup Live
15:30 - Regional News
15:45 - FA Cup Live
18:10 - ITV News and Weather
18:30 - Funniest You've Been Framed
19:00 - All Star. Mr and Mrs.
20:00 - Dancing on Ice - The Result
20:30 - Wild at Heart
21:30 - Brits Hits 30
22:30 - ITV News and Weather
22:50 - FA Cup Highlights

Dancing on Ice wouldn't appear so overpowering, Take Me Out would be given a boost from an improved lead in, and All Star Mr. and Mrs. would be given a better time slot (though it did ok last Saturday).

Cheers. Though 2000-2003 always pulled in 20m+, but after then it's pulled in less than that.

To be honest, NBC missed a trick regarding the Golden Globes. They should've got Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno to joint host it.

Ah, didn't realise FA Cup was on next Sunday. Fair enough, ITV couldn't move DOI any earlier. But the performance show still seems padded out, as in the past I'm sure they've fit in 12 contestants in around 2 hours. I guess ITV are making most of the new ad rules.

Maybe the contestants' contracts for this series says they only dance on Sundays? I think ITV may give DOI the weekend treatment next year.

Predictably NBC were the biggest joke of the night, even their golden girl Tina Fey was making jokes at their expense! This time, it was the turn of A-Listers to take shots rather than talkshow hosts.

Quote:
“Julia Roberts just told NBC pre-show special host Billy Bush:

--"God, NBC, you guys are really in the toilet now..."
-- "Julia Roberts, we're live on the air now..." Bush admonished.
-- "I'm not saying in the toilet, but there are problems," she backpeddled.

Bush changed the subject to the rain falling on the red carpet. Quipped Tom Hanks, in reply: "NBC said it was going to rain at 10 PM, and they moved it to 11:30 PM." (With that, CAA partner Richard Lovett who was accompanying the 2 superstars smiled weakly and wondered how badly that would affect his agency's pilot season with the network.) Later, Tina Fey told Bush, "It's not rain. It's just God crying for NBC." This is the kind of bashing NBC will receive all evening.

Ricky Gervais is introduced as the host of the evening and welcomes the audience to the 67th Golden Globes airing live tonight. "I'm not used to these viewing figures. Let's face it, neither is NBC."

There were 11 contestants in 2007 and the show was an hour and 50 minutes long. In 2008, with 13 contestants, it was 2 hours in length.

So...one contestant less and 20 minutes more!

And people thought the British channels were sitting ducks. Oh dear! I think NBC need a complete overhaul now, from the top down.

Panorama is reporting from East Jerusalem. Not wishing to diminish the subject matter which Im sure needs to be told-but in cold hard ratings terms I think we may see another sub 3 million result.
I and others on here have said there needs to be replacement for Panorama. For people of my generation the very name brings back childhood memories of extreme boredom.

Good night for BBC1 - pretty much holding firm on the week despite the improved weather (indeed, CF and AR were up), but less so for ITV1 with SCDoI suffering a surprise fall.

Though it's not unusual for pensioners to suffer a fall at this time of year, is it?

I wonder why SCDoI isn't getting the 10m a week that some ITV cheerleaders on here were confidently predicting on the back of ITV "owning" Sunday nights now?

Perhaps the show its past its best now - it lacks a bit of a buzz and it's all a bit anodyne from what I've seen of it. It's like a This Morning spin off show. Bringing in Emma Bunton to sex things up seems to have backfired, as the numbers are down on last week and last year.

And the omens don't look good for next week with a ridiculous 2h20m marathon show followed by another half hour - if the viewers manage to stay off the Ovaltine until African Heartbeat finishes.

Yes, I think SCDoI is in real trouble - could be nearing the end of its natural life...

Sorry to see Wallander slip to 4.4m, I suspect the snooker dented it more than anything else, but it did get a good 6m+ inheritance - I think viewers just find it too cold, but I love it. As others have said, it's not the sort of show which is there to get big numbers. But, decent enough compared to other things that have aired on 9pm at Sundays.

I actually think the OFAH spin off will do ok in that slot with a decent lead-in and SCDoI losing viewers. (There's another cold snap predicted for mid-week - that may finish another chunk of its core viewers off...)

Originally Posted by Fudd:

Hardly a "sleeper hit" - it's pulled big numbers of 5-6m and more since it moved last year.

I do think last night's was a great show, and topical too with the snowy tinges to it. It's perfectly scheduled, and best of all for the BBC, it's a year-round hit show not just 6 weeks a year.

Someone above called it "cosy TV" - I'm not sure about that, actually. It's not all fluffy bunnies and log fires, you know...

ITV should have stuck with the ads till 10pm - the ad break itself got >8m, the results show sub 7m...

It's surprising that a show which attracted 23m at its peak hasn't already been axed for sinking to sub 3m...

I once again feel the need to point out that one of the reasons for the BBC having a licence fee is that they don't have to be so concerned about ratings.

The BBC were heavily criticised when they moved Panorama to 10.15 on a Sunday, as they were accused of dumbing-down,moving the programme out of prime-time just because of its low ratings.

Panorama has a committment to so many foreign reports per year. Thus it avoids being too tabloidy like Tonight.

Which week? In the equivalent weekend for yesterday, the performance show had 9.19m and the results show had 6.72m. So this weekend's main show was down on last year but the results show is up.

I agree. I think BBC1 need to make it more exciting without dumbing it down.

The problem is, being completely at the centre of the political spectrum can be quite overly objective. I think moving 'Panorama' to BBC2 on a Monday, having a new sitcom after EastEnders, should be the first move in establishing a new current affairs output on the BBC:-

Monday

BBC One
8:00pm EastEnders
8:30pm Miranda

BBC Two
8:00pm University Challenge
8:30pm Panorama

Tuesday

BBC One
8:00pm Holby City
9:00pm NEW BBC1 FACTUAL/CURRENT AFFAIRS SLOT
10:00pm BBC News at Ten

I think this might be a bit more desirable? Especially as BBC1 have nothing on a Tuesday at 9pm anyway.

Yes, but Panorama would get the same ratings on BBC2. Look at University Challenge, and it would probably fit more with the BBC2 audience.

Time moves on, things have to be renewed. Panorama is definitely one of them, in my opinion.

Just dwelling on the BBC One of the moment, I think it looks a little bit dull, and I think it's worth giving it a slight revamp on Thursday nights:-

7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm EastEnders
8:00pm Top of the Pops
8:30pm Waterloo Road
9:00pm Being Human
10:00pm BBC News at Ten
10:35pm Question Time
11:35pm This Week

Potentially all slot winners, bar Waterloo Road. 9pm could be a great place for young drama, an hour before E4 kicks off its original & extremely popula teenage programming.

At which point, BBC One go in a completely different direction, with the news, Question Time and This Week.

I think Top of the Pops has the potential to beat Emmerdale if it is done right, especially with the EastEnders lead-in. And that 8:30pm slot could be perfect for new sitcoms!

What does everyone think? Because I think BBC One has become a bit boring and repetetive especially during the week, though so has ITV.

4% on average. The BARB boost for DOI could be less than 4%, or more. We don't know for certain.

But anyhow, the first 4 shows are 5% up compared to last year in terms of number of viewers. Taking the BARB boost and terrible weather (for last week) into account, it's pretty much level year on year (in theory). The share averages are the same as well (29%). I don't think share is affected by the 'BARB boost' or weather.

I think we had this discussion a few weeks ago PJ.

I said then, and I'll say a gain, that's a good line-up, but I think it would do better business on a Wednesday, away from the Thursday soaps on ITV.
