So Hustle finishes its sixth season last night with 5.57m (21.6%).
That puts the sixth season overnight average at 5.43m (20.8%)

To put that into perspective the last 2 seasons overnights averaged:

Season 5 2009 (aired Thursdays Jan/Feb): 5.48m (22.7%)


So looks like overall Hustle has had a decent run this year and should be back again for a 7th season. Or has it been recommisioned already?

I don't know about anyone else, but I really think its stupid that Broadcast and such like say 'BBC1 increased from 5.6m in the first quarter hour to 6m in the last quarter hour' while 'ITV decreased from 6m to 4.8m' for instance. Well, duh, ITV do have a programme that rates a lot lower straight afterwards!

It's just brilliant. It's the sort of show nobody should like or admit to liking, but just let yourself get into it and it's great Monday night viewing.

Dispatches is doing well, and Simpsons/Hollyoaks look stronger then recent figures.
BBC should think about doing something with One Show/Inside Out/Eastenders/Panorama thing which is hurting BBC One badly.

Given that the commercial companies are only "really" interested in the ratings for the ad breaks, shouldn't someone be quoting the 5min (or 1 min) average for those?

So, something like

Corrie: 19:30-19:40, 19:43-19:57 = 10.8m
Corrie: 19:40-19:43, 19:57-20:00 = 5.8m (or whatever it is to make the average 10.4m)

I'm so happy that Glee is such a big hit for E4. It really deserves it and I'm glad it's taken off in such a big way over here.

Although it's ratings vary hugely dependent on the topic, I do think C4 should consider moving the show to 9pm as it can get 1.5-2.5m viewers in a tough slot, which frankly is no worse than what C4 is offering at 9pm anyway. Would save cash too as C4 could do something cheaper or even get away with reruns at 8pm.


Panorama seems to be struggling of late in it's 8.30pm slot on BBC1 - usually 2.5-3m compared to around a million more which Tonight used to get in the Monday slot against EastEnders. Wonder if a move to 10.35pm might be on the cards soon, if they can get away with it.

Which is why product placement and Digital Graphic Overlays are such a good idea (commercial wise, not consumer wise lol)

Great ratings for EastEnders,Coronation Street and Emmerdale. EE and Corrie get the same rating even though EE deserv es to be ahead of Corrie. I'm sure EE will walk over Corrie next week

EastEnders still doing well Corrie had a big storyline that was promoted well on ITV plus they had the NTA plug aswell and still couldn't manage 11million.

Although I'm all against product placement (in drama at least), I doubt it would register with most people anyway if it's done as subtlety as it should be. (And revenue wise I don't think it'll increase advertising revenue by a single penny as it's most likely any money spent on product placement would come out of existing sponsorship/commercial spend anyway).

Good night for all really. BBC1 and ITV's dramas boosted by weaker competition on BBC2, but their 8pm hour continues to perform strongly.

ITV1 will be relieved L&O climbed, and it could top 6m next week. If it does ITV would probably be very reluctant to schedule it against a similar BBC drama again I think, because I reckon it's shaved about 1m viewers off it, but a solid performance none the less.

Decent for CH4 from 8-10pm considering Monday is usually their weakest day.

Also good for FIVE to be comfortably over 1m from 8pm-12.25am which doesn't happen that often!

More strong 10m+ showings for the big two, but Corrie is still on par with what it usually gets, would have thought there would have been a slight boost with the heavy promotion in recent weeks, but it was a bit of a damp squib in the end imo. The aftermath and return of Tracy Barlow should bring in the viewers though.

Emmerdale slowly decreasing in terms of viewers each Monday, but the share remains constant at 35% which is still up on last year IIRC.

Glee is becoming something of a huge hit for E4 continuing to increase every week and with repeat showings included is coming up to 3m viewers a week. Everyone seems to be talking about it aswell.

But has it declined as much as it appears?

As I have said over the last two weeks ITV and ratings are completely ignoring the Sky HD audience (as they prefer to deny you can watch ITV HD that way - and seemingly forced Radio Times last year to change its wording in the programme guide back to the claim that only Freesat viewers could watch the channel).

There has been a massive rise in HD viewers since Law and Order:UK was on last year and Sky installers are routinely setting up ITV HD for new viewers.

So potentially hundreds of thousands of viewers for Law and Order on ITV HD (the Sky viewers who have never tuned to ITV 1 SD beforehand and so are not counted) are being left out of these figures.

Note that even the very highest figures on BBC HD (i.e. Top Gear) get 400,000, so I very much doubt that ITV has had 'a massive rise in HD viewers'. At most, I'm guessing Law and Order would have 150,000 HD viewers.

God knows. I still don't understand why they had a double bill a few weeks ago, other than to put the Channel 4 episodes a confusing 12 days behind E4.

CBS got a bit of a lift from the Superbowl, mainly at 9pm where it had some great ratings. The Big Bang Theory continues to set series highs, though I doubt that one will be beaten this season. Two and a Half Men still has great ratings and is commissioned through 2011-2012 season but has one little problem: the star faces felony charges.

House is surprisingly popular among young adults. And ABC's response to Castle's dip in the ratings was to point out that their viewers have more money than the competition.

Elsewhere, Howard Stern claims he is in talks to replace Simon Cowell on American Idol.

Great to see the two dramas rising at 9pm. I agree with D.M.N. that Broadcast's way of showing L&O dropped over the hour is stupid as L&O finished at 21:55 last night, meaning that it averaged 5.54m between 21;00 and 21:55, and 5.4m across the hour. This means that between 21:55 and 22:00, ITV averaged ~3.9m. As they averaged 4.9m between 21:45 and 22:00, this means that they'll have averaged ~5.4m between 21:45 and 21:55, the last ten minutes of L&O, meaning that it's fall was actually pretty minimal.
