I know people are saying the 2 weekend final was a bad idea BUT last years final results had a higher percentage but 2 million less viewers and though the peak share was 0.5% higher this year there were 4.5m more people watching. Sunday clearly is a better day to get higher ratings, and perhaps BGT this year could have its semis Monday to Friday with a Saturday--Sunday final with the final 3 battling it out on the Sunday a 66% peak would last night have given it well over 20m

15.62m (53.2%) average!

EDIT: I presume the average is correct, I'm guessing DS has just got the time slightly wrong.
I hope that's right, I predicted 15.6

Xtra Factor: 1.87m (7.6%)

Not as high as BGMT, but I guess it wasn't expected to be, given BGT had a 'shock' result.
Or compare ITV1s shows, Mumbai calling vs Susan Boyle 5m vs 10m, if they had put the comedy awards on last night I'm sure xtra factor would have topped 2.5m

Sports Personality Of The Year: 4.7m (16.8%)
Small Island: 3.24m (12.1%)

Not too bad for SPOTY, Small Island dented more though it seems.

4.7m is fantastic! .. up against the biggest show of the year? The BBC must be very pleased with that.

Respectable figures for SPOTY, just short of 5m.

Incredible ratings for X Factor. Is it now the most watched show of the year?

Sports Personality Of The Year: 4.7m (16.8%)
Small Island: 3.24m (12.1%)

Not too bad for SPOTY, Small Island dented more though it seems.
Held up quite well given the competition as ever. Shares don't look too good but nearly 5m for SPOTY isn't disastrous considering X Factor's brilliant ratings on the other side. One thing you can say about BBC1 is it never seems to totally collapse as 2 million or so seem to watch by default which always helps.

SuBo had 9.84m (38.4%)!

Can't wait to see BBC One's ratings....
I'm glad. Nice show.

Except the way they portrayed Blackburn. I think they went round looking for the scabbiest houses and cars they could find, with grayscale pictures and emotional music to show how she has broken out from the horrid little life she led.

They didn't do that for Leon Jackson - he only lived about 3 minutes down the road.

They also didn't show how she is only 2-3 miles from this... http://lh3.ggpht.com/_H0EiX5ROTq0/R4...M/IMG_0128.JPG and this http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...hopping466.jpg

But I guess those images wouldn't suit the story.

Sorry, rant over. I don't even live near there.

According to my local radio station (BBC) :

* 20:30 to 20:45 - 17.1m
* 21:15 to 21:30 - 16.8m

The first half hour must have dragged the average down (again...)

43.2% primetime share for ITV1, which is their second best of the year. Best share was 49.2% on Britain's Got Talent Final day.

I would have thought 4.7m for sports personality was terrible actually.

According to DS's primetime averages 76.2% were watching terrestrial last night during primetime, pretty good share and Victorian Farm Christmas getting 1.73m on a REPEAT against both BBC1 and ITV1 is amazing that takes its total audience to 4.73m and should between the 2 shows clear 5m in the officials

Funny you should say this because people from the North East - mainly South Shields were furious at the way X Factor made them look. Its one of the reasons he had so much hype on the North East news urging viewers to all get behind Joe.

They were only commenting on the basis of yesterdays figures which weren't all that given the hype. You can't blame them for that.

Surprised The X Factor picked up so much for the Sunday showing. I guess most viewers treated the Sunday show as the "one to watch live" with Saturday recorded.

Great figure though, slots in nicely as 2nd most watched of the year in the overnights right?

So, an overnight average of 13.99m for the TXF final over its 4 hours - great figures, but not those of what those behind it would have us believe is "the biggest and bestest and most important show in the history of television, ever".

And whilst a 15.62m average for the 2nd part is a stonking figure, it has to be considered a bit of an underperformance given it was getting 14-16m a month ago, and when you're telling the world "20m will tune in to watch tonight's show". Er, no. It falls well short of that elite club.

They did schedule it beautifully to get that 19m absolute peak of a peak, knowing many would be flicking over from a SPOTY which they were determined to crush (but didn't).

One wonders what BGT, a far bigger show given the figures it managed on a hot summer's night, could achieve in winter?!

But well done to Simon Cowell - he gets the two biggest shows of the year, and the 2nd and 3rd most-watched shows of the twelve months to 13th December...

I was applying the "GeorgeS - you've got to add in all showings to get a true picture of how many actually watch a show" principle. You do the math...

(Clue: it got about 27.5m)

Excellent for Elf only down slightly on last year, and it must of won it's slot

Probably one of the highest ratings channel 4 shows of the year!

Can you imagine though how high the Final of X-Factor could of rated if the twins had been in it, still 19.1m is quite impressive

1 hour show versus a 2 hour show, it's obvious why not sweetie. The second hour averaged over 17m anyway.
When you're telling the world "20m will tune in to watch tonight's show". Er, no. It falls well short of that elite club.
19.1 million watched the winning announcement. That's some interest. Tell me, when was the last time the BBC had a 19 million peak for a non-football programme? Because from where I'm standing ITV have had two in a year.
They did schedule it beautifully to get that 19m absolute peak of a peak, knowing many would be flicking over from a SPOTY which they were determined to crush (but didn't).
I think 4.8m vs 15m is quite a crushing.. it got nearer to 7m in previous years. Naww...
One wonders what BGT, a far bigger show given the figures it managed on a hot summer's night, could achieve in winter?!
I know, right? Such a powerhouse!
