I can see Coronation Street starting at around 7.35 on New Years Day so it runs right up to 8pm. I agree, I don't know why BBC1 didn't air it at 8pm-8.35pm.

Or indeed, do a tonight and schedule it 8.00-8.30, and just allow it to run over. ”

I supose.
Still the BBC will have the upper hand on New years day
As eastEnders first episode at 610pm will end on a cliffhanger(Gay Asian affair revealed at a wedding)
plus there's Dr who bang in the middle

This Victoria Wood programme is a load of rubbish, big disappointment.

And clearly the BBC were disappointed too according to this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...-Day-snub.html

Reckon the original plan would of been to have VW at 9 and the Royle Family at 10 but clearly they thought it wasn't any good... and they were right. Good decision Jay Hunt/George Dixon.

LOL.

It was poor tonight. I usually enjoy it as well.

Think BBC1 have the hold all through the evening, save 8.30pm. I think ITV1 will basically be on damage limitation.

Don't think it matters either way when BBC1 has David Tennant's final Dr Who adventure on at the same time. Indeed, it's his very last 25 minutes up against that first Corrie.

I have the feeling that Coronation Street may suffer it's lowest ratings of the year on the first day.

To be fair, I didn't say a word beccause I didn't realise they were running over lol. I'd have said something if I had done.

And that something is: why the hell can't TV channels run to schedule? It's not THAT complicated.

I guess the news has run over for both channels?

I thind have been best to have EastEnders 730-805 and have my family right after so it would have finished for 9pm

I did get the sense from watching that VW was originally intended for Xmas Day but it was a wise move to demote it to Xmas Eve - not very funny unfortunately. I think we can mark her down as 'not as good as she used to be'.

The News isn't until 11.30 on BBC1. I think that's the latest I've ever known it!

Fair enough it running 35 minutes, but it could've been listed as such.

There must have been a rapid reschedule once the BBC1 executives saw the programme - hence having Gavin and Stacey sunning themselves on a beach on Christmas Day.

I think we did get one on Xmas Day last year, actually, so I wouldn't be surprised if we did this year too, but I think we know for certain the overnights will be in early on Boxing Day.

Because you said this, here's a Quite Interesting question for tonight () : does anyone think My Family'll beat Emmerdale in the ratings?

Not quite rubbish for me but not very good, and I can see why the Beeb didnt put it on Christmas Day.

There's no ratings risk either way, people have to watch to find out if it is rubbish, they wouldn't watch the next episode but as it's a one-off there isn't another episode.

Regarding the late running of the schedule, the main difference between the BBC are commercial channels is that if ITV are running 4 minutes late, the previous programme will still have finished on time due to the ad break. On the BBC, the previous programme will actually have run over by 3 minutes. This causes problems for people watching other programmes on other channels and more importantly taping programmes (lots of 'part recorded' turning up on their Sky+ box)

I wonder if it's a clunker and they're not exactly proud of it? Soon find out I guess.”

Hm, well that'll be the reason then.

Can't believe this car crash made it into production, let alone to the screen.

Forget my 8m comment earlier - be amazed if this clears 6m now. The breakdown over the hour and the audience appreciation stats will be fascinating.

Biggest turkey of 2009 by a mile I think.

I can see QI getting it's highest ever ratings tonight with a Victoria Wood lead in and David Tennant bring in the Who fans.

So what are people's ratings prediction for tonight?

Beg pardon for interrupting the Christmas ratings discussion but here's a report suggesting a bigger budget for Strictly for next year. Stage 1 in trying to narrow the gap on X Factor (if the report's true, of course).

In the DS ratings prediction game, I predicted 8m for Victoria Wood, so I reckon I'll be way out there.

Also
My Family: 5.5m
Shrek 2: 4.6m
Taggart: 4.9m (may have underestimated that if there's a lot of switch-off from VW)
QI: 5m

The celebrities are the last thing they should be concerned with. Scheduling, the presentation, losing Alesha as a judge and cutting down the number of couples would be a better start.

I don't think quality equals quantity in the world of ratings though. Just because something was rubbish doesn't mean it will get bad ratings.
