Thank you very much dubsj - Merry Christmas. Oh dear for Emmerdale! I fear for them tonight... Shrek 2 did well. Disappointing for EE and Coronation Street though, where were the viewers? Victoria Wood did well, Taggart did OK.
Loads of people go out Christmas Eve.

24.12.09

BBC ONE
Shrek 2 6.1m / 31.1%
Eastenders 8.1m / 34.3%
My Family 5.8m / 24.4%
Victoria Wood 6.8m / 29.%

ITV1
Emmerdale 5.8m / 24.9%
Corrie 7.8m / 31.1%
Taggart 4.1m / 17.4%

Five
A Christmas Carol 1.3m / 5.6%
Heads or Tails 0.6m / 3.1%
Victoria Wood bombed really ... Even Have I got News For You got higher than that last year IIRC.

Dubs, have you got ratings for:

Corpse Bride, Deal or No Deal: Scrooge or Santa, QI and Christmas Carols With The Troops.

Bit dissapointing for last night.

EastEnders had a good repeat rating of 1.1m though so it had 9.2m last night.

I suppose it's what you mean by disappointing. At first I thought the EE rating looked crap but then realised it topped Corrie and the day and still had 8m. The share is stupidly low though but then so is corries. I must admit I was expecting more though but tonight is the biggie.

Just seen the repeat had over a million.

May I ask where this 1.1m number is from?

Not surprised Emmerdale was below 6m tbh considering normal episodes have only been getting around 6.5m this week. My Family and the soaps dented each other it seems.

Expected more from EE though, only up against a YBF repeat, and the lead up to the big Christmas storyline...what was the rating for Christmas Eve 2008? Even though the repeat pulled in 1 million I would still have thought the main showing would have been nearer 9m.

According to BARB last year's xmas eve episode had 8.55m but it was on a Wednesday.

I wonder if by not having a Wednesday episode this year it's taken away some of the momentum from EE but then Tuesday was quite a bit down on Monday so I just think it's the normal mid-week lull and we should see a noticeable rise this evening as normal.

I wonder what YBF got.

A good day overall for BBC1. Over The Hedge and Shrek 2 rated well. EE is lower than I expected, though the BBC3 repeat had a good rating. My Family did well considering it was up against the soaps. Victoria Wood's rating is okay, but before it aired I expected something around 8m. The breakdown shows that not many people tuned off during the hour.

Poor for Corpse Bride on ITV1. The soap ratings are low, particularly Emmerdale. But Taggart did quite well. If only ITV gave the show a regular decent slot, it'd be getting over 5m.

Corpse Bride: 1.9m

QI: 5.72m
Christmas Carols: Below 2.35m

I think most will agree Corpse Bride's rating deserves an eek for how low it is!

Nothing really stands out last night then, though QI did very well and My Family did better than I thought against the soaps. Good for BBC1's afternoon trio of films.

But it was probably the worst Christmas Eve line up ever across the five main channels. Dismal.

Hopefully tonight will deliver in both viewing and ratings terms.

Have a good day everyone!

Excellent for Shrek, the early BBC News.

Well done to Corrie against good competition on BBC ONE, not far behind EastEnders.

Poor for Emmerdale.

Excellent for My Family, Victoria Wood, and QI.

And finally owing to the BBC's late news on past 11, well done to ITV News at Ten!

Merry Christmas to everyone on the thread!

Thanks for that, rzt. Any chance of two more to complete the set?

The Secret Millionaire (Ch4) and Celebrity Shock List (Five).

And with DOND- is that 2.3m or 2.4m when adjusted?

because its christmas, Secret Millionaire got 1.82m (7.8%), Celebrity Shock list got 0.98m (4.5%) whilst DOND's rating was 2.35408m which is 2.4m (1 d.p.)

BBC has managed to get The Santa Clause and The Chronicles of Narnia on iPlayer.

Victoria Wood now at number 10, behind Waterloo Road. Comments on Twitter about her show were funnier than the show itself. It was like Horne and Cordon but worse. In fact, if Horne and Cordon had done that show they would have been ripped to pieces for it.

EE had 8.8m (37.1%) at 7.45pm which puts it about a million ahead of Corrie.

But the last five mins can't have dragged the average down because people on here were saying it overran. So I wonder what happened. The episode was also a good one that got better as it went on.

Corrie was nowhere near EE though if you go off the 1.1m who watched on BBC Three. I bet Corrie's ITV2 repeat couldn't muster even half that.

I think this evening will be a clean sweep for BBC1 and some shows will do very well but at the same time I think it will be modest (by xmas day standards) 10-11ms rather than the colossal ratings Xmas 2007 gave us.

Average for Victoria Wood (though I said last night I couldn't see it topping 7m). The soaps were all extremely subdued, pulling very weak shares indeed.

Apart from that, a very good night for BBC One. The films did superbly, and I'm shocked by just how well a repeat of Shrek 2 performed. It thrashed the Corpse Bride on the other side. My Family did exceedingly well against the soaps and QI got great numbers with David Tennant's appearance and a healthy comedy lead-in.

Pretty average for Taggart on ITV1, but I don't think they could have expected a whole lot more for it. Once again, a good night for BBC Two with some double-figure shares - particularly before 9pm.

Some excellent shares all day for BBC1.I guess its good news for Victoria Wood that seemingly few people deserted the show as it went on. Apart from a few lines, there wasnt much reward for sticking with it-in the circumstances 6.8 million is a pretty good result. Though I wonder if there will be a frostiness between VW and the BBC given the reported comments.
Shrek is so part of Christmas now its near enough an event to sit down and watch it, as I would imagine alot of yesterdays audience had seen it multiple times before.

That interesting because I would have expected the whole episode to average about 8.8m/37%. It normally adds viewers during the episode, peaking near the end. So it could have peaked higher then 8.8m. It had quite a strong lead-in too - 6.6m, again this is much higher then normal.
