Tee-hee, I got him well rattled didn't I - steam must have been coming out of his ears as he typed.

When your magical "1 in 3 people" (ie, 2 in 3 didn't) watched Victor Meldrew on holiday in the Algarve 16 years ago or a hum-drum episode of Birds of a Feather on Christmas Day 15 years ago or rather more than that (24.4m) watched Del & Rodney become millionaires 13 Christmases ago, were you creaming your pants then?

I guess not, you probably weren't even born...

Anyway, the 20m club is an elite club that few shows genuinely deserve to get into. I'm delighted neither BGT nor TXF did so.”

No Mention of Graham Norton on the news, but on his show he did say how his special News Years Eve show guests will be Jedward

I wonder if we will actually see just a Tv show break over 20m again (not sporting event or News /Royals ect, but just a normal Tv show)

I've always loved Birds Of A Feather, but i never knew it was that popular! It's screaming out for at least a one-off christmas special!!!

You couldn't make it up. The same people will be very quiet Boxing day when it comes to commenting on how well BBC1 did on Xmas day. Wait and see. 2007 you had one of them only posting to say there had been an error with the listings so the regional news should be removed, prior to this he posted to say people just have BBC1 on at Xmas by default but don't pay attention to what they're watching. ”

I wonder how long it will take to hear the old classic on Boxing Day that Christmas Day was actually the 13th Decemeber.

Well you see, everyone has their day on the ratings thread whichever broadcaster you 'cheerlead' for. Some will have it on Christmas Day, some have had it for the past 3 months.

What generally goes around comes around on here.

Birds of a Feather would be great but I'm not sure if it would attract a big enough audience as it's not exactly a loved classic like Only Fools and Horses and The Royle Family. My choice for a Christmas Special would be Men Behaving Badly.

True. I still say BBC1 getting high ratings right through Xmas day is arguably more impressive than one show on ITV1 getting the huge ratings X Factor has though. I know not many will agree but take Xmas 2007 for example the BBC's share from 3pm in the afternoon right through till late in the evening was above 45% when did ITV last have a day like that.

Last night was just like xmas day in reverse except it was only one show doing all the hard work for ITV1. I say to the ITV cheerleaders enjoy it while it lasts as the Cowell bubble has got to burst some time and let's face it he's about the only thing keeping ITV going.

I don't understand why some people fiercely cheerlead any broadcaster though. With some it seems to go beyond praising performance into something much more and unless they work for the respective broadcaster they cheerlead I don't understand why. The only reason I'm not neutral is because other people aren't and the balance is heavily tipped in favour of ITV1 in here so I try to restore some of that balance otherwise I'd be happy to get off everyone's cases and be a bit more neutral myself.

I'd have thought some of the ITV/TXF cheerleaders would be raising a glass in thanks to the BBC and SCD for its successful Sunday results show last year - there's no doubt in my mind that had the Beeb not played a blinder with that last year, pulling in 10m a week and beating the main Saturday show, that a copycat Sunday show for TXF would never have crossed their tiny minds.

Such a shame the Beeb bottled out of a Sunday show this year - it was a classy programme, I enjoyed that more than the main Saturday show.

As for Birds of a Feather, it was 1993 actually not 1994. The Beeb had OFAH and Birds on Christmas Day and got 19.6m and 19.4m respectively, whilst Keeping Up Appearances and One Foot in the Algarve on Boxing Day got 17.1m and 20.01m.

Now THAT was a weekend of hit shows...

My biggest gripe is that praise on here isn't even given where it's due. Take Strictly for example from reading this thread you would think it had collapsed when the reality as rzt points out is quite different but don't let that get in the way of the X Factor jizz jamboree.

BBC1 was doing excellently on Sundays this time last year but I don't remember the BBC supporters here being half as smug and self-satisifed about that. Maybe they just have more grace about them.

BBC1 Christmas Day will be much more impressive than a 3 hour block on a sunday night on ITV1. When you have 8 hours of programming nearly all averaging 8 million, a handful over 10 million then that is some achievement.

Im clearly a BBC fan but that is mainly down to the fact that there is so much bias towards ITV here I feel I have to defend the Beeb from so much rubbish on here.

Hmmm, but by that argument maybe some people are being biased towards ITV1 because there are so many pro-BBC people on the board?

If everybody took a natural stance instead of 'forcing' it than maybe the board'd be better for it?

It's a ready-made audience though. They wouldn't get that on a normal day so it's not really that impressive. Family are all round, we gather round the TV, the BBC are the only ones who bother to put on an attractive line-up...

It's just a trivial thread on an internet forum. It's really not that big a deal...

Yes, BBC1 is the granny sitter of choice on Christmas Day.

Granny falls asleep in front of it, whilst the rest of the family do something more interesting.

There are far more ITV fans on this thread for sure. I think the thread is much better for all the bias though I like a good debate.

Got to love this headline :

X FACTOR: RECORD 25M SEE FINAL SING-OFF

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/...final-sing-off

They say a further 5m people watched in pubs and 890,000 recorded the show.

It's hard to have a good debate when people are determined to slate a certain channel every time - whether it be BBC or ITV.

If you check my posts I dont think I usually slate any channel just like to point out the positives of one more than the other.

I never realised pubs had a BARB system.

But it is trivial. I don't worry about the ratings for ITV's Autumn schedule in my day-to-day life.

When I post on here I treat it the same as I treat anything on the internet. If I engage in a debate that doesn't automatically mean it's a matter of life or death to me.

You know, before I joined this forum I never thought TV ratings could create such bias, debate and controversy lol.

20-25million for a piece of trash like X-Factor really does demonstrate what TV is all about.

Social togetherness, on a huge scale!

Those who proclaim video-on-demand technologies like iPlayer havn't grasped that most people are not really that interested in a specific programme. People are interested in belonging and being part of society.

VOD is the newer technology but it is so at odds with what people want from TV you would think it was developed in the 19th century and that broadcast is the newer tech.
