Yep, 6.07pm start for EastEnders...

Well done BSI.

If Doctor Who starts this early, they've really shot themselves in the foot.

EE's a 35 minute episode right now, according to the BBC3 schedule. So Doctor Who will probably start on time.

There's 1hour10mins of EastEnders on tonight? That's overkill by anyone's standards surely?

Compared to commercial tv running times, that's almost 3 episodes of Coronation Street in the same night

I see even BBC News were plugging Doctor Who tonight, I thought they were above that sort of thing

The BBC really should have tried to shake up the schedule a bit more tonight as just like Christmas Day, they have the control - but as many have said Celebrity Mastermind at 8.30pm kind of spoils the run, plus post-Gavin and Stacey is rather poor.

I think perhaps something like this would have made more sense:
6.30pm Celebrity Mastermind
7.00pm Doctor Who
8.15pm EastEnders
9.20pm Gavin and Stacey
9.50pm ???

Yes, it loses the starts on the hour and half hour, but that doesn't matter and it's to the BBC's advantage, and forces ITV to shake up their schedule too, arguably making it virtually impossible to schedule against between 7pm and 9.50pm.

Yes, they usually stick to plugging ITV talent contests...

Really don't understand the appeal of Doctor Who - gave it 15 mins tonight, to see what all the fuss is about, but it's twaddle isn't it, a kids show watched by adults.

Anyone have a full list for New Year;'s EVe? Any idea about BBC1 Scotland's Hogmanay Live show?

Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing. Not a day goes by during Strictly Come Dancing that they aren't mentioning it.

'Doctor Who' and 'David Tennant' are trending on Twitter. 13/14m average, anyone?

I would love for it to achieve that, as i really loved the episode, and it was sucha nice end for DT. However, i can't see an extra 3 or 4m people joining part 2 of a story, although 12m would be great.

Doctor Who trended last week and 'only' got 10m. I'd be very surprised if an extra 3-4m tuned in tonight.

So
Its Very Rare for EastEnders to have an Hour-Long Episode let alone a double bill.
Corrie is on 5 times a week as it is and anyway Corrie's had 3 episodes in 1 evening before

Great night of TV i thought Welldone to the BBC

I think the point of EastEnders at 610pm was to help out Dr who alittle.

Dr who will be the most watched show of the day 10.9 i reckon

EastEnders ep 1 will get 5.6m
EastEnders ep 2 will get 9.7m

Does Doctor Who really need the help of EastEnders though?

Weren't the endless idents, interviews and promos enough?!

Does BGT need the Help of Corrie all week?

I think the BBC wanted a big rating for DR who and rather then having a hour-long EastEnders they thought it was better to split the episodes.

It's not something the BBC do alot so i think its ok.

Predictions:

BBC One
17:40 - BBC News: 6m (29%)
18:00 - Regional News and Weather: 7m (34%)
18:10 - EastEnders: 8.9m (43%)
18:40 - Doctor Who: 13.2m (53%)
19:55 - EastEnders: 11.2m (41%)
20:30 - Celebrity Mastermind: 4.3m (16%)
21:00 - Gavin and Stacey: 7.4m (28%)
21:30 - QI: 5.7m (22%)
22:00 - Live at the Apollo: 5.5m (23%)
22:30 - BBC News: 6.1m (27%)

ITV1
18:40 - ITV News and Weather: 3m (13%)
19:00 - Emmerdale: 4.5m (18%)
19:30 - Coronation Street: 5.1m (19%)
20:00 - Countrywise: 3m (11%)
20:30 - Coronation Street: 7.2m (27%)
21:00 - Agatha Christie's Marple: 3.7m (15%)
23:00 - ITV News and Weather: 3.6m (17%)

I can see the 19:30 episode of Coronation Street to be its lowest ever figure (previous lowest IIRC was 5.7m)

I should note that last year, a peak of nearly 28 million were watching on New Year's Day.

if EastEnders either episodes get near that figure i'll be very happy and surprised.
Dr who however will get a massive figure i think a peak of 13m could be likely.

have you got ratings for new year day last year?

I think people are under estimating how well Are You Being Served? will do tonight. I think BBC2 could be above 3m between 6-8pm tonight. The Simpsons & Hollyoaks on Ch4 should also be good for close to 2m

Early JPOTY candidate, surely? (Joke Post of the Year)

Nope - BARB hasn't updated.

While running through my EPG, I noticed that Take Me Out has been granted a repeat showing. Oh, how lucky (note - the time):

Quote:
“Take Me Out (Game Show)
ITV1 Central
Tuesday, January 5th, 2010
12:20am to 1:15am (Other show times...)

New dating series hosted by comedian Paddy McGuinness, who will be playing matchmaker to 30 single women looking for love. A succession of single men must do their best to impress the watching ladies, who each have a light that they can turn on or off to show their opinion of the chaps. The gents will do everything from wrestling, singing, fire-eating and even plain old flirting to try and get a date - but which lads will light up our girls' love lives and who will make them black out with dating despair?
Stereo, Repeat, Followed By ITV News Headlines, Widescreen, Subtitles”

Permanent slot, should it flops, hey?

I'm no soap fan so I'll take your word for it. Is there a big overlap in viewers?

No sure I understand. I was being serious. Are You Being Served? was hugely popular in the 70's & 80's and will get a lot of people in to relive that part of their lives.
