LOL - god, I've read some rubbish in this thread (especially over the last couple of pages), but that takes the biscuit!


Awful choice and you'd think producers would have thought better considering the backlash with Alesha. They should have gone for Bonnie Langford really - a previous contestant who did really well, but also someone who has the same kind of theatre background as Ruthie Henshall. It took DoI a good series or so to justify her place on the show as judging the "performance" - what on earth qualifies Emma Bunton to judge in that regard?

And she's hardly got the Cheryl Cole factor going on!

I suppose it's impressive, but I don't think it's more impressive than what The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent achieved this year.

i think the bbc will make big changes to strictly next year. they tested the format of having it on a friday night if you remember. so they will be weighing up all options. we might even see the sunday show return.

lets not paint a bad picture of the show because had it not been pitched against x factor it would have had much greater ratings than it has been getting.

Wonder where it will go. I'm guessing it's just some sort of one off special? Maybe Wednesdays like The Carpenters thing?

I do like the idea of the 71 Degrees North show that was mentioned the other day, though.

Definitely a filler show, but would be more suited to Easter or even Christmas than the middle of Feb really.


Back to Strictly - one idea might be to capitalise on The X Factor results show and move completely to Sundays, airing 6.30-8pm and 9-10pm. X Factor would still do the business for ITV in the 8pm hour, but the BBC could steal a lot of viewers from the shows building up to it and following it.

That might be a clash with Len and Bruno's US commitments though (is DWTS on Mondays?), and of course like Dancing on Ice leave a big hole on Saturday nights. After all even if head to head Strictly can get 8m against The X Factor - I doubt any other show would.

Yeh, Len and Bruno need to be in America LA for Monday.

I think Strictly would have worked well over two nights if they could have gone live. Sunday's show was too stretched, boring and it just didn't feel right.

They could try Friday and Saturdays I guess.

The main thing they need to do is cut the show down. A lot like Big Brother, they've stretched it out too far now.

Solid, if unspectacular figures for BBC and ITV in the 9pm slot. Good for the retrospective multichannel's, though.

Decent night for all really. Life gets a boost from weaker competition as does Bad Santa. Out Of My Depth seemed like one of those shows that would have got around 2.5m in a Tuesday 9pm slot but was boosted by the Corrie lead in.

Surprising to see a repeat of River Cottage do so well against the soaps and Panorama up on usual. Also with BBC3 doing so well in the 8.30pm slot I can see Corrie dented quite a bit when the soap figures come in.

Fridays and Saturdays would be the best I think; Sundays evenings are akin to any other weekday since everyone is a home for work the next day; unlike Friday and Saturday where young people are out (some kids get home around 6/7pm and students leave around 7/8pm). There is nothing shown on Fridays anyway, SCD wouldn't be competing with anything there!

Or maybe a Saturday show and a late night - Saturday Night Live show with SCD results, Lottery and music etc...

Yay!!! Not unsurprised about Miranda, but i LOVE that show, so am so glad to see it come back! Loved You Have Been Watching as well!

Hope they don't tamper with You Have Been Watching and just turn it into another celebrity panel show with two teams.

Was so annoying when they ditched the civilians from Celebrity Ding Dong, hence ditching the main selling point of the format and the crux for most of it's material.

Just to let everybody know, I penned the article about 'You Have Been Watching' being re-commissioned that DMN put up. Having recently got a job as a part time reporter, it was an exclusive from the Comedy Awards.

The reporters really need to do some research. They make out the ratings have fell off a cliff when they haven't...

So, just 10 days remain until the big day. The festive TV schedules are well and truly out. The usual mix of big hitters, film premieres, soap favourites and old classics have been lined up for our viewing pleasure. But which programmes will impress this year? Will anything top last year's staggering 14.3m for Wallace and Gromit? Can Doctor Who improve on last year's 11.7m? And how will the likes of Ant and Dec fair with their brand new festive show against the latest Pirates of the Caribbean on Boxing Day?

The competition starts here; 45 shows, 7 days to predict. Everyone's predictions will be stored in a giant spreadsheet, checked against the actual ratings when they come out and points will be awarded (or not as the case may be) for accuracy. Then all through next week players can check their progress on the daily leaderboards before the winner is crowned a week on Monday.
