Here I go again swaying myself into another long, drawn out rant. But I just want to send out the disadvantages of the British public boosting this piece of manufactured claptrap to the No.1 spot.

When you buy the CD, all proceeds go to Mr Cowell's pocket. The X Factor You Are Not Alone single was customary to buy because the profits went towards Great Ormond Street Hospital. Referring to last year, Geraldine McQueen's single handed the proceeds made by it over to NSPCC. But guess what went to No.1? Hallelujah.

And Simon Cowell in retrospect does not deserve what he receives. His arrogance as an example. And also the American Idol incident that occurred.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle5146531.ece

It's all manufactured. The British public are a herd of sheep. We always buy it at christmas time, even when the singer isn't even satisfactory, my example coming from Leon Jackson hitting the No.1 spot in 2007!! In the days of The Spice Girls, Wizzard, Slade, a good old christmas no.1 in the background while munching on your christmas dinner. Tis now predictable every year, tiresome and odious.

So please oh the great British public, put your money towards other great singles, like Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. Which I may add is a revelation of a single, a really good beat, fantastic vocals and a sudden change of Lady Gaga's style. Fantastic song, keep it on the charts longer.

Thank You for listening.

Oh please we have had way worse at xmas no1 , hello Mr Blobby comes to mind, tellytubbies, Westlife and so on . The xmas no1 has always been cheesy rubbish so the X Factor fits right in.

but not every flipping year did we have some cheesy rubbish that we knew was going to be number one for the following year on Jan 1st .

christmas number ones of the 90s a vaired mix of songs,

00s a vaired mix until 2004 then X Factor every year since 2005

christmas no 1s of the 10s

X Factor or whatever it changes into as Cowell will rename it at some point.

You were doing quite well OP until you name checked "The Spice Girls", then you lost me. They are the most manufactured group ever and their huge success, particularly in the pre-teen market that emerged in the mid-90s, is a big part of the reason why we live in these manufactured musical times and why shows like X Factor are able to exist.

I'm past caring. I say let Joe have his moment, it's not he end of the world!

IMO, the biggest 'sheep' in this whole game seem to be those flocking to get Rage Against the Machine to number 1 because someone on Facebook told them to. Ironic considering the main lyric of the Rage track.

I agree. The Christmas number 1 means absolutely nothing to me anymore, Simon Cowell's seen to that.

Yes, instead of making a CHRISTMAS song number one you make some other novelty crap number 1, really proving a point there everyone. If people don't want x factor to be xmas #1, get behind a proper xmas song. By following ppl and just buying a song to stop another getting number 1 it's sad and desperate, and completely defeats the purpose of what point you're trying to make.

You know, just like the whole Tiger Woods thing... I really couldn't give two fsssssss about the Christmas number one battle-less thingy-magigy hoopla.

The climb will go to number one... ratm will have a bigger profile in this country. Joe will be back next year, and everyone will pronounce him a flop despite charting at number 2 and a shaky, yet solid, performance on the 7th series of the X Factor.

The script is sooo predictable.

Oh come on people. It's not all about the quality of the songs.

Remember back in 2000? Westlife were aiming to overtake The Beatles record of successive no.1's and get the Christmas no.1 at the same time. Bob The Builder was aiming to stop them achieving that record. Neither song was any good, but for many it was exciting to see if Westlife would get their record, or if Bob The Builder - probably the ultimate novelty record - would humiliate them. The fact that the latter happened was great entertainment for the many Westlife haters, not only because it stopped them getting the record, but also because of who beat them, and that as a result they missed out on the Christmas no.1.

Nowadays it couldn't be more boring. We know not only who will be Christmas no.1 every year, but also that it will be a cheap cover with no thought or effort put into it, with a cheesy key-change thrown in. But just because it's from X Factor and Cowell tells people to buy it, thousands of kids will oblige.

Agreed. I haven't bought an X Factor single in four years but I listened to 'The Climb' and I actually liked it so I bought it. It had nothing to do with me being a sheep and simply buying it because it's from X Factor - I barely watched that show this year.
If people like it, they'll buy it and if they don't then they won't. Whereas my flatmate is buying Rage Against The Machine four times in protest because Olly didn't win. That's far more sheep-like behaviour IMO than people who buy Joe's single because they like it.
I do miss Christmas songs being number one at Christmas but there seems to be no sign of Cowell's juggernaut stopping.

I think you should take a look again at what has been at no1 in christmases gone by. there is a list here http://www.philbrodieband.com/muso_xmas-no1-hits.htm

Pink Floyd, Queen, Human League, Pet Shop Boys, Jackie Wilson, Beatles, Elvis etc have all had No1's at Christmas hardly all cheesy hits. Definitely need the fun back for the battle to the Christmas No1 one thing the OP has said it's definitely getting predictable and boring over the last 5 years. Also there were plenty of decent singles battling it out with those singles before the X-Factor dominance in all the years before that.

From a DJ's point of view I actually think The Climb is the weakest X-factor single ever and a few colleagues have also agreed with me.

Why did you pay anything in the first place.....was it because you wanted to support Simon's boob reduction fund

I agree with all the above, except you can't be both shaky and solid!

Yes they are both contradictions.

What I meant was he will probably give a nice performance of his first single next year, on the x factor. But it will be just that... nice but forgettable... Just like Leon Jackson last year. The script as already been written people lol... Nothing to see here.

If you're not trying to make a point then that just makes it even more pathetic.

Everyone is sick of X Factor getting the xmas number one, and I would hope that this is because they feel there is some other xmas release out there more worthy of the number one. If there isn't, then wtf does it matter?

And like I said, the songs all about not following the crowd, that's the "point" it's trying to make, that you won't do what they tell you to do (i.e. buy the x factor song). Yet all people have done is create an equivalent to the x factor, tell people what to buy, and someone decided this piece of garbage should be number one during the festive season instead. Smh.

Seems moronic if you ask me.
