it's probably because of x factor though.

An absolute classic AOR track I was looking at the itunes chart it's sitting in the top 10 there too as I was going to start a thread but noticed this one. here's the video from You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0H3bJHWGl4 be good to see this in the charts this Sunday the X-Factor at least gave the charts one decent song for this week then.

It's still a second rate TV show compared to the offerings on TV at weekends in the past. That's always been a popular song anyway as a DJ I get asked for it loads in all sorts of venues.

Just checked my DJ's bible (Guinness Hit Singles & Albums) and the Journey single when originally released in the UK only reached No62. Seemed a much bigger hit than that it was never off the radio back then and is still played on the radio now and again these days. Looks like it will be a bigger hit second time around.

Don't really care about the X Factor, I've wanted this song to thump that show this Christmas for ages so I'm a bit miffed about the who Rage thing... Anyway, I've just made my contribution to the Journey song!

yes, i'm sure people do still download it all the time.

but it would be silly to deny the influence joe singing this at the weekend must have had on collective sales of the song, whether you watch x factor or not.

it also made the singles chart last year (can't remember the position though) as the result of a campaign to try and get it to number one instead of the x factor winner's song.

Every time I hear this song I'm reminded of the last episode of The Sopranos.

I agree. Basically I think had Joe not sung this nobody would even be talking about it.

Didn't deny it was influenced by that but it is still a 2nd rate TV show compared to what was on offer in the past by BBC or ITV that was what I said. Go to some of the DJ Only collections by Music Factory Mastermix or DMC the track is on a few of them and available in various mixes as well.

The song is quite big in the States though isn't it...? It was on the classic radio stations quite a lot there.

I don't think TXF was ever meant to be high brow though to be fair.

Just pointing out it's been a popular track on those compilations plus quite a few others which have been in the compilations chart in recent years. Probably if it had been reissued with a greatest hits album it could have done okay on it's own without the X-Factor's help.

i'm aware of its popularity outside of the x factor realm - as i said, for a scarcely publicised anti-x factor campaign song last year, it did well to chart at all. it's also the last song played every saturday night at our local nightspot, i don't actually know anyone who doesn't love it.

but people who have only ever heard the song when joe has sung it on x factor have to be taken into consideration too.

it may be a popular track but if joe had not sung it it would not be doing as well in the download charts

I haven't denied Joe helped it but as you have both agreed it is a popular song and I think a re-release if X-Factor never existed it would still have a chance to chart with the right radio airplay and promotion.
