XBOX360 + GrundigGU22 HD ready

Supposedly.

The XBOX came with a Component HD AV Cable.

The istructions are fairly simple but after connecting the green, blue and red it says the following;

5. Connect the red and white RCA audio connectors on the component HD AV cable to the corresponding colored input jacks on the HDTV.

But the TV only has a scart input - there are no other red and white coloured plugs.

Am I doomed to continue playing xbox in SD?

The red/white leads are for right/left audio out from the Xbox360 and have no bearing on SD/HD...if you have component input on the TV there is usually a corresponding audio input.
Check your user manual.

Just out of interest what connections does the TV have on the back?

If it did have Red, Green and Blue Component video inputs then it will also have red and white audio inputs in the same block. Be pretty useless without.

it may also have Red, White and Yellow Composite video. The red and white are for the audio and the yellow for the video. You haven't used these have you? Though if you had then the picture would look very odd and god knows what noise would come out of the speakers as the audio amp tries to make sense of a video signal

The TV has the following;
1 x HDMI
1 x VGA
1 x SCART
1 x CVBS (yellow)
1 x Y/Pb/Pr (green, blue, red)
1 x Audio In
1 x Audio Out

Our DVD gets connected using the old R/W/Y but with a scart adaptor.
Obviously, the xbox cable has the same so the idea is to use only the red and white to get audio.
But the TV doesn't pick it up because the scart is a separate input.

Connect the Xbox using the component connections and the red/white audio to the audio in socket.
If this is a 3.5mm stereo jack socket all you need is a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 female phono sockets...I'm pretty sure Maplins will have a range of these.

You don't connect the Xbox Red & White to the SCART. You connect it to the Audio IN. That is the whole point of that connection. It is the Audio part of the Component AV connection.

As John Currie says if this is not a pair of phono sockets but a jack socket then use an adapter. Though you stand a better chance finding one at Maplin than a fictional holiday camp created for a BBC comedy programme
