Sorry, but you must have been hearing things: as Jan quite rightly says, others have commented on this but all he has done is thank the people who have voted. It was very clear on Saturday that he never expected to go through to the final - regardless of what may have happened in previous weeks.

He doesn't expect everyone to support him - there is no evidence as to how on earth this conclusion could be reached. He has been nothing but complimentary about the other contestants (and their supporters) - much as I get the impression some people might prefer him not to be.”

Servalan, you really should know better than to give people facts which might stand in the way of a good rant!

Oh Servalan, if it wasn't for the stalwart posters like you shoving common sense into this place, I would have been off a long time ago!

Actually, Chris did bring it up on Monday's Breakfast, and it annoyed me a bit. However, after I threw a brick at the set, he stopped talking about it.

I'm sure he genuinely was feeling a bit meh-meh about it all but I did think he should have sucked it up and kept quiet. Lots of us are in jobs where making a big deal about how we feel constitutes milking it.

As regards the original question: what backlash? I'll be annoyed if he wins but only because I want Ricky to win, not because I have any inherent loathing for Chris. If he does win, it won't stop me watching Breakfast sport or any of the other things he's in: He's a nice guy I've always liked, inasmuch as I've thought about him at all, I just want the hunky guy to win. No backlash.

To be fair, what was he supposed to do. Be happy and smiley, and everyone would accuse him of being unfeeling to Ali and smug. Unfortunately, he cannot get away with saying nothing either, because Bill and Sian would have brought it up.

To a certain degree, it's the same for Ricky. Ricky knows he is a good dancer, if he says it himself, some will think he is arrogant, if he is modest about it, some will say that he is fake.

ldm - yup, I agree.

Television companies (or whoever it is that sets up shows) do not think through the consequences for participants. I think the whole set-up has put Chris in a total no-win situation. As you say: humble = milking it; smiling = smug. I bet he'll be glad when it's all over.

and

ps - I'm very glad he's got so much further than Bill Turnbull, a guy I'd also kind of liked but who turned into a whiner when, despite his undoubted efforts, he didn't get high marks because he just wasn't that good.

Actually, yes I got that feeling this morning. Which made me quite sad, not only because I'm supporting him. I just want both finalists to go out and have the time of their life (because that means they will entertain us).

Absolutely not, unless he didn't have as many votes as the 2nd bottom of the leaderboard.
Voters decide who goes not the contestants.

On thinking about it, Chris was going to feel bad about any of the other 2 leaving because he hasn't been in a dance off.
Saturday's show was the first time that Chris' popularity was directly responsible for someone else leaving - he'd been protected from that emotion for the previous 12 weeks unlike Ricky or Ali.

Not surprising really that he was so subdued on Monday - everybody is at the sharp end now.

Why don't you e-mail/phone up and let him know how you feel?”

But he will ust go on ITT or Breakfast and tell everyone that he is being abused

No he won't, the one desperate for acknowledgement will brag about it instead by phoning up a radio show.

Quite so - the rantings of 'Barbara from Bournemouth' must have come like manna from Heaven for Hollins this week. She presented him with a perfect new angle from which to rally his adoring fans to his defence.

I only wish he was half as adept at dancing as he is at self-promotion and manipulation.

I hope to god I never end up as bitter and cynical as this post.

You really need to get over it and move on.

For some reason in my head I'm imagining Bournemouth Babs as sounding like Jan Ravens when she was eliminated.

I know what you mean, maybe Babs was really Jan Ravens.

What do you want SCD to do - only open the competition to trained dancers? Hold on, then it would be Come Dancing!”

If it were Jan, I would have expected Judge Craig to have had a starring role in her ... displeasure

I doubt he'd get any backlash from the media. They don't seem to be that interested in Strictly anymore.
What name??

Nobody sane will rememember it in a week. However it will be recalled by the SCD forumites for decades as the travesty. and he will become the new Rachel as in the best dancer never to have won it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's registered this.

The BBC has made itself look totally stupid by trying to compete with The X Factor - this year of all years - and, now there have been no behind-the-scenes dramas to compete with Arlene/Alesha, the scheduling or P***gate, the media have just switched off.

From negative publicity to no publicity. Yet more proof that the producers no longer know how to run the show.

Chris has shedloads of people telling him how brilliant he is ... ITT is always full of people saying they want him to win .... he knows he is favourite to win with the bookies .. and Bruce/Claudia never introduces them without saying 'very popular couple' so to me .. for him to mention it on ITT that one person made him have 'mixed feelings' about getting to the final is disingenuous ... he didn't mention the colossal amount of support he gets at all which is so ungrateful ... what does he want three wise men bearing gifts ??? .. gold, frankinscence and one glitterball trophy????.

He will probably win .. he's got it all covered (except for the dancing but that's secondary apparently) .. he's used to putting his personality across to the viewers .. he does it every day. But it won't be seen .. by those who like to see accomplished dancing .. as one of Strictly's finest hours.

And another vote for Chris,
