Problem with an LG 22LH2000

Hi all, does anyone else have this tv?

I brought it for the bedroom and basically I have a white glow from the top and bottom of the screen (more prominant at the bottom).

I have fiddled with the controls loads, but the only way of reducing it significanlty is to turn the backlight right down. Problem is the picture is just too dark then.

is this a standard problem? or is my TV knackered?

thanks for any help...

It is bleed through of the backlight. As you have discovered turning down the backlight fixes it.

Essentially there is a small gap along the edge of the screen, in this case top and bottom, that is allowing light to spill out from the backlight onto the front of the screen.

It is a known fault with LCD screens. Whether it constitutes a manufacturing defect or not is another matter. You could argue that it is with some justification I think. If it is brand new you could ask whoever you bought it off if they would consider it a fault and if so if they will replace it.

thanks for this,

I keep playing with the settings and there are settings where you barely notice it. I just can't decide whether it is actually a defect or just how this model is.

I went to a friends last night and his 22 inch sony did a similar thing, only his was from the sides not the top and bottom.

I suspect it is a minor manufacturing defect. It doesn't take a huge misalignment of the various bits that make up the panel for a few slight gaps to appear.

Not that it's any consolation of course but my telly - an LG also - is perfect. Not a photon of backlight escaping

cant be a standard problem as my bedroom 22lh2000 has no bleed like that. I would say there is a slightly lighter 2-4mm horizontal area along the top of the screen but you can only see it on black in a dark room with the backlight on max.

Best setting for the backlight is about 50.
Best picture for internal freeview is Cinema- backlight 50- contrast 90-brightness 55- colour 43- sharpness 70. go to advanced and set colour to normal- turn dynamic things off and set gamma to medium. Cant remember the advanced settings but go from there.
