anything could still happen, especially with Joe's CD released, but considering that many people (including myself) thought he would have overtaken Rage by today, it's quite remarkable how far they've pulled ahead at this stage.

It has already been confirmed that the arm of Sony that RATM are signed to are nothing to do with Simon and Simon will not profit from their sales so stop going on about Simon being part of this or indirectly helping him... we're not!

RATM for Christmas Number 1!!!!

Exactly!

Like i've said many times before Simon Cowell is an MD of a tiny Sony BMG subsidiary label. He is a very small cog in a huge multi national machine.

He's also payed a salary and doesn't work on commission. So whether Joe sells 10 copies or 10 million copies Simon will at the end of the year receive the same salary from Sony BMG.

Where he makes all his extra money is from his television production company 'Syco'

He will be paid the same amount as any other record company MD when it comes to records.

I put £20 on at 33/1 (when the FB group had about 4,000 members).

I checked the group again about 3 days later and there were 300,000 on there and the odds had dropped to 8/1!

Just for the record, should RATM reach the top spot, I'll be donating the majority of my winnings to the Shelter appeal.

Of course, if RATM fail, I'll be expecting Shelter to refund my £20...

Well Simon will benefit a bit, because he is a major shareholder in sony, and RATM will add to their profits, so his dividend will be higher.
Just pocket money for him really though, enough for one of his next botox injections probably. .

RATM are almost certainly going to get the top slot now, unless there is a dramatic drop off in their downloads, they are currently 100% ahead on itunes.

I'm not sure where that idea comes from.
Cowell is owned by Sony, not the other way round.

Cowell owns SyCo records - a subsiduary company of Sony.
RATM are on Epic - a different subsiduary company of Sony.

That doesnt matter, anyone can own shares in a company.

You don't get it.

It's nothing to do with Sony BMG. The whole point of this campaign is to knock the X-Factor away from the top spot to prevent it getting the "guaranteed" Christmas number 1.

It doesn't matter if the songs are on the same label or not.

It doesn't even matter if Simon makes money from RATM (which he won't, but for those who think he will). It's nothing to do with money, record labels or even the song choice. It's simply about stopping another X-Factor Christmas number 1.

Exactly, I don't care who gets the money from the singles. I just want to end the X Factor's monopoly on the Christmas Number 1.

I love how people think they know music industry and business.

'HUR HUR SONY IS WIV SIMON COWELL DUUUUUR'

And Rage are now the bookies favourite surprisingly, and Tom Morello is donating proceeds to Youth Music + £35,000 for the homeless this christmas, not a bad result.

The Rage campaign has never been about money or trying to decrease profit for Simon Cowell. It's about people collectively saying that they're sick of thoughless pop dominating the charts and X Factor ruining the traditional xmas chart battle.

It's good to hear that it's made over £30,000 for Shelter and that money will also be donated to UK Music charities.

It's not about that, its about reinstating the xmas number 1 race. For the past few years its just been a given that x factor is going to get it. its not about good music being at the number 1 spot, its just the fun of actually their being a competition to get to the number one.

No-one is entitled to have the number one, by doing this campaign, we're bringing back the xmas number 1 race. Face it, the xmas number 1 wouldn't be exciting this year if it wasn't for the rage campaign.

This is true; the campaign has created a real race for the first time in years (although there was a smaller challenge last year). However, to me it feels just as artificial as the X Factor annual number 1, so I don't really see the point.

For most people, this is basically a protest vote, so it doesn't create a real excitement or sense of wondering what the favourite song will be in the Christmas chart.

im not a fan of rage against the machine at all really, but this is interesting. at first i thought it was just abit silly, it would be great to have a different xmas number 1 for a change but off its own merit, rather than because of some campaign! anyway my mind has been changed slightly by someone i spoke 2 at the gym earlier, who said rage.. is all about people power, and not conforming to the masses. i think it would probably make a statement that it is possible to actually beat the x factor. cos frankly i am one of the few who is sick to death of it.

People keep bigging up the physical CD release but I wondered round HMV today and didn't see "The Climb" anywhere, no big stand at the front, it wasn't at the impulse buy section of the counter. I did see Susan Boyle's face everytime I turned round though. I couldn't even find the singles, only albums (I know, I suck at shopping) and TBH why would anyone buy a single as a stocking filler when you can buy an album or DVD for less then a fiver? I think the real problem here is that it's a particularly crappy song that no one likes.

It's just shy of £39,500 now. I think by the time the charts are announced it will have hit £70,000.

I think the places most likely to be overloaded with them are supermarkets so that Granny can pick up a pressie for her grandkids on 'impulse' aka highly scientific positioning of stock to ensure it's sale.

What they need is to get one of the major tweeters on board. Stephen Fry and such folk.

Zane Lowe has said that Nik Grimshaw will play the full, uncensored, uncut version of "Killing In The Name" at 10pm tonight on Radio 1 - apparently for the third time only on the station. The first time is in folklore, wonder when the second one was?

It's not unusual anymore for there to be swearing on Radio 1. the other day i was in the gym at about 8:30pm and they were having a 'The Streets' night with all the swearing fully uncensored. I turned it off because i hate 'The Streets', but thats besides the point.
