this 2003 machine is new to me, I want to get it working, at the moment the clock just flashes,

when its switched on, there is a bit of movement from the hard drive, but it does not try to even do a self check, if this model does a self check

I have noticed a rip in the ribbon from the circuit board to the hard drive, I know that would stop the hard drive from functioning, but would it stop the whole machine from starting up?
