Did Leona REALLY Crack America, With Just Two Top 20 Singles?

I'll put my disclaimer now: I like Leona alot, and I personally think she's very talented with a remarkable vocal ability

BUT:

The USA position of her singles were 1, 11, 81, 66, 31. There's just two top 20 singles there, so is that a valid justification to say she has "cracked" America? There have been examples where an artist has got a #1 in the charts here, followed by a string of Top 40 hits (and Top 100), but no one would say they cracked the UK market would they?

I know her album reached number one, so is that what it is being based on? Or just general buzz/opinions/reception, which aren't represented by actual sale figures?

Here's a surprisingly long list of UK artists to top the US singles charts:

Have all of these "cracked" America?

Thats quite an interesting list. I had no idea George Michael had so many US #1s

To be honest I think the last Brits to have decent US sucess would be The Spice Girls

Bleeding Love was a global hit - so IMO, no - she has not cracked America. Her current album sales support this.

You'd have to define exactly what constitutes cracking America really. She's at the point where she's fairly well-known enough to appear at awards and be nominated for Grammys, so she's doing alright by the sounds of it. She's only really getting started in her defence.

Don't Let Me Down will be another American number one. Espicially with Justin in the video. i

What are you talking about?

Here are the sale figures.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natasha...ld_discography

Natasha has sold just under 10 million (worldwide) since 2003. Leona has sold just over 7 million (worldwide) since 2006 and with less releases. You do the maths.

I am not talking overall sales. I am talking about US success

Natasha has done better than Leona. Both her albums sold relatively well. She's not a one hit wonder.

Very good without simon cowell and reality show

Which sales are you talking about here? Natahsa hasn't had a US number 1. Leona has.

Looking at US sales for both Leona sold 1,558,966 for her first album while Natasha only sold 900,000 for her first album and 500,000 for PFOS.

Leona is well ahead of Natasha in US sales. Even furture ahead if Bleeding Love as a single was included.

I am not sure at all which stats you are getting your info from.

Leave it alone, you are dealing with a LeLe stan fan and no matter what you say you won't win

they are both popular in the USA and depending who you like more, one is doing better than the other:yawn:

Of course she did. She's one of the biggest artists in the world, she's right up there with the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Beyonce etc. America have fallen in love with Leona, they cant get enough of her.

Leona is a one hit wonder in the US. The abysmal sales figures of "Echo" prove that she has not cracked america.

Forget about number ones, you can have a number one and sell next to no albums. Corrine baliey Rae and Amy Winehouse have done better than both of them. They have each sold in excess of 2 million albums in the US without having a number one single and all the hype in Corrine's case.

No. Jay-Z signed her but she never had any real success.

No she has not "cracked" America. Far from it in fact. Her fans, however, refuse to acknowledge this and continue to bask in the tired glory of getting #1 on just the one occasion and not so much as ruffling the feathers of the US top 10 since.

Obviously the lot of you have no clue about US charts...Britney's charting singles have gone: 1, 21, 10 (from her first album), 9, 23, 11 (2nd album) 27, 86, 102 (3rd album)

I suppose Britney too hasn't broken America, she must only be a very minor star, not the 2nd biggest selling artist of the decade and highest selling female artist of the decade.

The singles chart in America is a poor stick to measure someone's success!!!
