Thanks to everyone who voted in Round Twenty Two (incorrectly labelled as Round Twenty One!)

Topping the votes this time with a nomination from a whopping 73.33% of you is ex Bad Girl Liz May Brice (Johnson) whilst Bilis Manger and Captain Jack Harkness (Matt Rippy) both gathered nominations from 52.63% of you.

Well done to:-

+ clever chick
+ Eowyn W
+ Tigger-Roo
+ Tumpy

who all managed to nominate all three evictees.

All three evicted characters were predicted Top Eight placings so there's a fair amount of movement on the first leaderboard.

Prediction Leaderboard 2 (No Recurring Characters)

Well done to Clever Chick for winning the second Prediction Game.

Question: (Not Torchwood Related)

At the moment I'm thinking that the next Survivor will be New Who episodes.

This will give people an opportunity to vote on the last DT episodes before the Matt Smith ones are aired later in the year.

In terms of groupings would people prefer:-

+ Seasons 1 - 4

or

+ Seasons 1 - 3 with this years episodes plus all of the Christmas specials lumped in a "Specials category"?

I know that the last time this was run there was some disagreement about which season the Christmas Specials should be attached to.

Anyway, on with the game.....

As with the last round you need to pick which of the four characters listed below you like the least then post your votes on this thread or send them to me via PM. The three with the most votes will be evicted from the game. If you'd like any that aren't evicted to roll forward into the next round all you need to do is type "auto" with your votes & any that have Survived will automatically roll forward into the next round. In the event of a tie-break cumulative votes will be taken into account.

So, it's on with the game then. Time to pick your four least favourite characters from:-

Recurring

01) Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman)
02) Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles)
03) Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori)
04) Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd)
05) Rhys Williams (Kai Owen)

06) Owen Harper (Burn Gorman)
07) PC Andy Davies (Tom Price)

Series 3

08) John Frobisher (Peter Capaldi)
09) Clement McDonald (Paul Copley)

The deadline for your votes for this round is 8pm on Sunday 20th December

Surprised that Clement survived over some of the others. Didn't find his character that original or interesting, been done before.

RK - we going with 4 votes until the end now?

As for question, I think it should work the way Who intended (see Writers Tale) in terms of seasons, certainly up until The Next Doctor (end of S4).
You could include this year's 4 as an extension of that (my vote) or as series 4.5.
Question is, what's left to vote on now we've done episode, companions & notables, villains & monsters?

Will Clever Chick be going for a double-whammy on the prediction games?!

- they had less impact than the recurring characters that remain.

I'm a little confused about the New Who episode choices. Does the second choice mean we'd skip season 4 and only have seasons 1-3 and the 2009 specials?

No it means that seasons 1-3 would only have the 13 "block" episodes listed. The Christmas specials such as Voyage Of The Damned etc would be in a specials category along with the episodes shown this year.

This will probaly be the last round with 4 votes requested.

My preference would be for Season 1-3 plus specials but I do have two questions

1. Would the various multi-part episodes count as one episode or would we count each individual episode seperately??

2. Would the Children In Need mini-episode Time Crash count as a special??

I'm confused - where does S4 (i.e. Donna's season) fit in?

RK, sorry to be awkward but I think I have 6 predictions left? Unless I've forgotten who I predicted? Not that it matters, somehow don't think I'm going to win.

I'd prefer series 1-4 then a 'specials' category including TCI, TRB etc as well as the recent ones.

Personally I'd like to see Time Crash included (with the specials)- it's only a few minutes long but it beats Fear Her!

I'll come back and vote later- it's getting hard to choose now, I need to think about it!
Solamenn

04) Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd)

06) Owen Harper (Burn Gorman)

08) John Frobisher (Peter Capaldi)

09) Clement McDonald (Paul Copley)

As for the question, I'd like to go with Series 1-4 plus the Specials as series 4.2 if that's possible.

It is getting so hard to choose now - it's bad news when you have to start voting off your favourites but here goes:

Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles)
Rhys Williams (Kai Owen)
PC Andy Davies (Tom Price)
Clement McDonald (Paul Copley)

I'll go with what the majority want but I would prefer it if, say, 2 parters such as Human Nature/Family of Blood could be treated as 1 story rather than 2 episodes, if that makes sense.

Karen

The most annoying thing about The Captain going out is that had he lasted one more round he would have had the right music *shakes fists*

anyway...well done to Matt on getting further than any other character to appear in only one episode of TW! Personally he would have been in my top 5, but never mind!

and congrats to clever chick, she really is clever!

right, so old votes:
Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles)
PC Andy Davies

New votes:
Owen Harper (Burn Gorman) - well i think i said it all already in the last thread rewen!
Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) - I think Ianto was a character who evolved quite nicely in the context of the show, we saw him grow from glorified coffee boy to hero and I think his story arch was good. That said, he was perhaps a less significant character than the other leads through series 1-2. And yes my enjoyment of the character has slightly been tarnished by the actions of a few nutjobs who think it's cool to send decent people like James Moran hate mail and death threats.

As to the question, I'd go with the series 1 - 4 option i think.

Oh don't say that, you'll jinx it

From last round:
Clement McDonald (Paul Copley)

And new, I'm voting for my top 8 now:
Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) - Ianto has always been my least favourite out of the team but I still really liked him which is why he has escaped my vote this long.

PC Andy Davies (Tom Price) - I love Andy but he doesn't have as much substance as the other characters left. Him ripping off his uniform and joining in the fight against the police was his best moment for me.

Owen Harper (Burn Gorman) - Although Owen was a pain in series 1 he added drama and excitement to the team. He became more likable in series two and I loved the role reversal with Tosh in 'Adam'. I don't think him and Tosh would have worked as a couple and I am glad that they didn't get together. His last scene with Tosh had me in floods of tears and it's hard to bring myself to vote for him.

Thanks Muttley

I forgot about the question

I would go for each of the series in a category, each containing 13 episodes, and then have the Christmas episodes and the specials as another category.

Oh help. Those who know me are fully aware of who I won't vote for and I am worried . I may even get upset! I have to vote for somebody so here goes

02) Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles)
Didn't like Gwen to begin with but warmed to her once she was with Rhys
06) Owen Harper (Burn Gorman)
Often felt he got too much story in the first two series but I did begin to warm to him as well and then he died
07) PC Andy Davies (Tom Price)
I am very fond of Andy as just a good guy
09) Clement McDonald (Paul Copley)
Really well played

My preference on the above would be for all episodes to be rated separately. I don't think it's fair that excellent episodes like Utopia/The Stolen Earth should get dragged down by less successful other parts to the story. Last time we did this they were separate episodes, iirc. I'd like to see Time Crash included, but in the interests of fairness you'd have to include the other CIN special (which was set before TCI) as well.

For a change, I'd prefer all episodes together in one category. We like some of the specials (and dislike others) just as much as we feel towards some of the regular episodes, so why not put it to the test? Sure, they are slightly different, but so are the season openers, or the finales, or Doctor-lite episodes, yet we don't make separate categories for them. So let's just give all New Who episodes equal chance for once.

Just a suggestion.
I know the voting is gonna be difficult no matter what system we'll choose, so...

The categories don't really have any impact on the voting. What they do allow is for a comparison of the various seasons so that you can see which are faring better than others as the game progresses.

That's why I asked the "Specials" question. If I just include the Specials from this year in that category then there aren't that many episodes in it. Including things like The Runaway Bride / Voyage Of The Damned etc bulks the Specials category out a bit.

In terms of the 1 part 2 part question, as Muttley said they were treated as separate episodes which this Survivor was first run.

For comparison reasons I'll probably do the same this time so we can see whether episodes have moved up or down in popularity.

I should have known it by now, shouldn't I?

Sorry, I got carried away a little with that "justice for all" speech. What I meant was of course the chronological option, with each christmas special attached to the following series. Basically the dvd release format... Next Doctor together with the last specials, five episodes category, it's not that short, almost half a series. Six even, if we could include Dreamland. Do animated stories count? I'd love to see Infinite Quest included with series 3...
Verence
20-12-2009
I would put both Dreamland and Infinite Quest in the specials category.
