Honestly this is so bad. You know what it is. Its all Simon Cowell's press spin doctors and so fourth. The hold he has on the UK media is shocking.

It's bad enough his ''people'' got Cheryl Cole spinned into the ''nations sweetheart'' .

To be honest I doubt the people who would be offended by what happened yesterday would buy a RATM record anyway so I can't see it affecting sales one way or the other.

What this does show is that whilst Cowell will publically say he isn't bothered and doesn't care, he does and it's getting under his skin!

Job done, then!

But it's clearly so contrived, just like him telling Jedward week after week he didn't like them. He wants people to THINK it annoys him, if it really did he wouldn't want to show it, he wouldn't phone The Sun and tell them how much it annoys him.

True. The person who cares what Cheryl Cole says ("Oh those beastly men! They're so mean! I'm going to scweam and scweam and scweam!") isn't ever going to buy a RATM song anyway.

It was pretty telling that even 5Live were saying that the reaction to the swearing yesterday was overwhelmingly in favour. Most people see the funny side and don't like being treated like little kids.

Oh yeah, I think 5Live loved it too. Otherwise why did they wait until the line had been sung FOUR times before pulling the plug?

The way Cowell and Cole have said the RATM campaign is mean spirited and denying Joe McElderry his moment winds me up more than anything else. Who gave them and their show the divine right to Christmas number one?

The sad thing is though all her supporters will be rushing out to buy it.

The only plus is that she has probably now lost the 'credible' (and I say that losely) tag she some how earned.

If Simon Cowell makes comment about being outraged, it encourages sales. He's no fool.

I don't think they think they have the right at all. I think their point is that Joe could not get to #1 just because of this campaign, not because of another song or artist being better/in their own right. I doubt they'd have a problem if Lady GaGa or Peter Kay (current top 2) were ahead of Joe, but RATM is only ahead of him because of this campaign, not because people think it's a good/better song.

Furthermore a lot of the comments by RATM supporters on Joe's youtube video, iTunes and Amazon song pages are pretty disgusting and very homophobic. I know not all of the supporters are like that, but it does make the whole campaign seem rather mean AND personal.

But Joes song would only be getting the No1 slot because of the 4 month intensive ad campaign that is The X Factor. How is that fair?

As for the discusting comments, thats just the internet for you. Don't judge a whole group of people by the standards of what some angry little boys and girls who think swearing and being vile is clever.

I don't think Cowell assumes he has a divine right to the Christmas No. 1, he just said the campaign is a bit silly and it doesn't make a difference to him whether or not his single gets to No. 1 - the only person it will really make a difference to is Joe McElderry and his music career.

By 'mean spirited' I think he meant that the RATM campaign implies that those buying the X Factor single are mindless drones who have been "brainwashed" into buying it, and are not doing so because they like the music. I agree with him there.

But Joe is only in the running to be number 1 because he was on X-Factor.

If he was just a new young artsist releasing a cover of a Miley Cirus song no-one would care a jot.

What gets me is Cowell calling the campaign "cynical."

So there's nothing cynical at all in timing the end of X-Factor with the christmas number one race, every f***ing year is there? of course not.

How will getting a No2 single in charts hurt Joe's career? He's 18 fgs, I'd say No2 would be a massive accievement for him. I think it's sad that Simon and Cheryl seem to consider that a fail, just goes to show how arogant they really are.

so if Joe doesn't get a number 1 then it will make a difference to his career??? The winners song is just the winners song. The album that comes after is the one that makes or breaks you

Maybe it won't make a difference, who knows. I think RATM beating him to No. 1 may cast a shadow over the rest of his career, since the previous X Factor winners have achieved the Christmas No. 1, he may be percieved as a failure - it would be a shame really, since No. 2 is an impressive achievement for any artist.

I noticed on 4Music's nightly Hot 10 whatever-it's-called that RATM isn't even in the top 10 and X Factor is #1.

Bloody cheek.

All the press I have seen has been biggin' up a RATM win. Paul McCartney has apparently said it would "funny" if Joe was beaten by Rage, lots of anti-Joe articles here on DS, Cowell apparently cross with the BBC for "playing up" the chart battle and Matthew Wright was supporting the anti-X Factor campaign this morning on his show.

I along with many others are sick of Cowell's dominace everywhere. Just downloaded my copy of Rage from Amazon for 29p, and before someone tells me it doesn't count, Amazon make up the difference apparently.

See that's why the majority of X Factor fans (in terms of consuming the music and not the show itself) are seen as sheep, out of touch, fickle etc because if they see no2 as a failure and base their future enjoyment of his music on that then it would be a bit stupid really.

The only people who would cast a shadow over his music career are the people who base their personal tastes on whatever is the charts at the moment.. and sadly X Factor fans are the people percieved to be in that bracket.
