Just having a debate with my friend. I referred to Marvin as the main guy in JLS and my friend thought Aston was the main guy. Who would you consider to be the main person in it? Yes I am aware that they are a band and there shouldn't be a main person but in most bands there are 'main' people!

I have had thoughts on which one was the lead. Maybe they both are. Like the saturdays, Rochelle and Vanessa pretty much are the leads. So marvin and Aston are. Aston has the best voice.

On X Factor Aston was almost always the lead singer. But they all seem to get a fairer share in their parts with their new material, which is good because I think they're all good singers.

Well it is widely considered that Aston is the "main one" because he took the lead on XF and obviously has the most confidence when it comes to public speaking, and apparently has the largest fanbase out of the four. But tbh, they all share now-a-days.

But if you class the ones with the most fans etc the leads.. I would say Aston followed by Marvin

& Kazz.. I wouldnt say Aston has the most confidence at all
They are all equally confident.. That just maybe didnt come across that well on x factor. But if you watch recent interviews etc.. Marvin & Oritse normally do the talking.. or they all do

Remember in their first audition even simon pointed Oritse out as the best singer.
I think his voice is the strongest and he has got a good one.

We just dont get to hear it that much. I think they do that because they think that since he is not as good looking as Aston and Marvin....

Therefore they seem to put Aston up front then Marvin.

But Aston to me is a small boy who is short and the muscle he is trying to grow on his chest doesnt change that.

I think JLS is abit like Girls Aloud..

Cheryl looks the best in GA, Aston in JLS

so the videos/appearnces and will be very Aston heavy as he looks the best and has the biggest fanbase for being 'fit'

I would have said Aston as well, but maybe i'm a little biased as i do find him the best looking

I suppose you have to define main person. Lead singer i think the person meant. Clearly seems to be Marvin and Aston.

From their album, the distribution of lines is:

And I'd actually say vocally, the order from best to worst (though they're all great) is:
Oritsé
Aston
JB
Marvin

I think for their next album the vocals should be distributed more evenly - they all have good voices that deserve to be heard; poor JB gets barely any solo parts on the album.

So, I'd say the 'lead person' is definitely Aston.

The lead singer is definitely Aston. I think this is mainly based on his looks and the fact that he appeals most to teenage girls. I do love his voice but wish JB and Oritse got more solos. JBs voice is amazing.

The lead singer is Aston imo. Marvin is probably the second main singer though although I actually think he's the weakest vocalist of the group.

I agree! Oritse obviously has the best voice but Aston's the most popular so they just shove him at the front! Even though he has the weakest voice imo!

Thanks everyone for your replies, I've been well and truly proven wrong! I just thought Marvin was always at the front singing most of the lines and he always seems to do all the talking.

I can't actually think of many pop bands that have a clear lead singer, certain members may sing more on certain songs, but groups like JLS, Girls Aloud, Sugababes all seem to be quite even. Obviously there is exceptions like Pussycat Dolls (Nicole) and Take That (Gary/Mark).
