POP band?

The Beatles hands down.

I am not a fan of their pop stuff though.

To be fair, while technically not a band, they've been hugely successful.

I was a huge Savage Garden fan, but I assume I'll also receive a roll eyes for the suggestion..

I am presuming that POP is the distinction OP?
Because while I said that The Beatles were the best POP band, my opinion is that Queen were the best BAND (all round).

End of what? The road, the day, the world as we know it, time?

Presumably you mean End of the argument - so why didn't you say it?

(Sorry - I've just taken these comments from yesterday's Telegraph - but I agree with them)

no group has had the effect on music that the beatles did, whether you like them or not. maybe they were lucky, the ones that were in the right place at the right time...nontheless, they DID lead the way.

Abba haven't been mentioned yet?

Anyway, why aren't people allowed to say Girls Aloud or the Spice Girls?

Quite right.
I HATE listening to Abba, BUT I would say as a POP band they really must be up there in the top 3.

What's the point in creating a thread asking for opinions if you're going to dictate and sneer at those you don't agree with?

As both were manufactured i can never rate them as one of the great pop groups, but i do think that Girls Aloud released 3 or 4 of the best singles of the last decade.

Another band I am not partial to but deserve a look in are Take That.
Maybe they were manufactured, but Gary Barlow DID write some excellent pop songs and I believe he played some instruments too.
They were definitely the 'Beatles' of the 90s in SOME respects.

The best pop 'group' would have to be Spice Girls or ABBA for me IMO

Spice Girls were more than just the music
