While i sympathise with those who do not want cowell "ruining" the charts at Christmas time I am appalled at the choice of "song" to try defeat Joe to the top spot.

why couldnt theye choose a Christmas song - it would have served the same purpose and probably have been a more widely popular choice.

i do NOT want my kids singing "f** you i wont do what you tell me at any time of year, especially Christmas Day"

I will NOT do want a small group of degenerates tell me!
and i wont be buying into the x factor lie either which has harmed music more than if the guitar hadnt been invented and given youth a voice .

Years when a Christmassy song has been number one:
1957, 1958, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1984, 1988, 2004

Years when a Christmassy song hasn't been number one:
Every year from 1952 - 2008 I haven't listed above...
You missed 1955

In the present world situation I would have thought
Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie, or I believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake would have been appropriate.

yep agree with that it should be an xmas song. i would rather have the xfactor song at no.1 than a song like that

I just find myself wondering if the OP actually knows what the RATM song is about? Probably not, or they wouldn't be so quick to label a song that is anti racism as sick.

agreed it's rather sad times we live in when people don't bother actually listening to the words of a song and it's context but feel perfectly happy to label it as bad bc it has some swear words in it....nice.

But then I guess buying a crappy secondhand single thats been sung a hundred times better by Miley Cyrus just bc some guy won a popularity contest is much better....yeh whatever give me a break op.

Your funny..."degenerates". It is widely known that people who like rock music are a hell of a lot more intelligent and accomplished than the devolved sheep that pay into pop music (and the XFactor)-the majority of which are complete dole scum and a drain on our society. The idiocy of our nation embarrasses and scares me.

At least if your kids sang rage it might give them something to stand for. It might make them think.

The "XFactor" song last year was about someone having an orgasm you absolute ****!
I'm sure it's possible to make a point without resorting to abusing people...

Anything off of The Downward Spiral would be pretty awesome. I'm sure you could spin Hurt into a Christmas song somehow.

Like crazy stories about men in sleighs being pulled by flying reindeer... or ones about virgins having babies.

Celesti there are actually a couple of well known scientific studies that show that I am not making it up. Rock music makes you think, people that write rock music want to present their ideas on a wide range of subjects to their fans.

Pop music on the other hand tends to be about love/relationships and involves lots of simple metaphors. It's aimed, unsurprisingly, at the majority-the lower working class who live their aimless lives in preparation for the weekend and the prospect of getting pis**d and watching the XFaxtor.

Don't even get me started on the people that like hip-hop. If you can even call them people anymore.

I'm on the dole

But I listen to Rock music (Japanese Rock mostly) but I can see what you mean, alot of pop nowadays is bland and very 'samey'

I loved the RATM track way before this whole thing started against Joe, am I right in thinking it was on the GTA: San Andreas soundtrack? (Not sure why I bring that up lol)

Rock music is for smart people, and yet here you are hurling abuse at people you disagree with and throwing wild negative generalisations about people based on something as innocuous as some songs they might like.

I'd have to question exactly how reliable these 'well known scientific studies' are. But then I do also own the Wu-Tang Clan back catalogue so chances are I wouldn't be able to read them anyway.

Being smart doesn't mean I can't hurl abuse at others. It just means that I judge people and question what they stand for. If I wanted, I could probably do it in a nicer way-but what is the point? Your more likely to think about my ideas if you are riled up.

All I want is for you to think, but maybe learning to read should be your first step.

For that reason alone, I've bought a copy

Here's hoping!
