Shane Lynch has reportedly said that his Boyzone bandmate Stephen Gately died for a reason.

The singer admitted that although he is still coming to terms with the tragic loss, 'life doesn't stand still' for anyone.

Lynch, 33, told The Sun: "I've got faith and respect for God - God doesn't make mistakes. So therefore, I've got to understand that it's all for a reason. If I don't understand why then one day I'll be told - but not right now."

He died of a pulmonary oedema, due to an undetected hear condition. It goes to prove how easily people believe that they read in The Sun before a post mortem had even been carried out though!

Coming to terms with the death of someone who was close to you is very hard. I hope Mr Lynch manages to do that and move on with his life.

I agree. I think if it gives people comfort to belive in the after life at a difficult time it's a good thing. Not religious myself at all, but I respect the right of people to hold beliefs that I don't.

Sounds like a man still struggling to come to terms with and find reasoning for the sudden death of his friend - so of course a fine target for a bitchy comment about how he's talking crap.

Agreed. If he's a Christian, then it's not surprising that he'd try and find some comfort from that.

I too hope that Mr Lynch comes to terms with his friend's untimely death. The human body is a complicated and unreliable thing.

Several of my friends are religious and i respect them. But i don't believe God took Gatley for a reason. I am sorry but i do disagree. Anyway, I am ending my point there

I'm an agnostic atheist and I agree with you. If you want to make this point, you should do it in general terms, not bring the grieving into it to make them look bad.

People, abruptly saying things like 'It would matter, but God doesn't exist' is borderline religious intolerance, due to the fact that this is the person's belief, what gives you the right to say God doesn't exist in response to someone after comfort following the death of a close friend. Yes, there is free speech, but if you were to rephrase your reply to 'I personally don't believe God exists' as opposed to 'God doesn't exist'.

Just for you to take note, as I think its not at all nice to criticise someone's beliefs in the matter of death, everybody should be open to opinions though. Also, saying 'I have numerous friends who are religious' reminds me of people saying 'I have numerous friends who are gay', in response to being called homophobic.

Anyways, on that note, I do think 'if' God exists, he'd have much more to deal with than a pop star I think.

I don't think it really matters. I don't believe in God at all, but Shane Lynch clearly does. He and Stephen appear to have been very close, Shane Lynch has lost one of his best friends, and if God and religion are helping him to come to terms with his loss, then that's good.
