What would RATM winning mean for X Factor?

I'm curious as to how it would affect X Factor?
anyone any opinions? I assume there will now be an annual campaign against X Factor, and there will be a good chance of the anti X Factor song winning every year.
It's amazing what the power of the internet and a facebook campaign can create - even up against all the tens of thousands of pounds worth of marketing, rage can still win.

Will Simon realise that power and try to harness it next?

It'll give them an extra angle to exploit next series; 'this year we're aiming to get back on top' and so on.

A message to Simon that sugary, overproduced ballads does not a good song make. I hated the fact that the X Factor always stitches up anyone who wants to sing rock music instead of I Will Always Love You for the 15 millionth time, and the overuse of the phrase "world class" when in fact it was barely passable for a pub gig.

Oh, and the "you really made that song your own."

But yeah, it will make one cowell very very pissed off

Other than they might have second thought about scheduling the show to finish in time for Christmas, probably nothing.

I can't see them changing the timing, they'd just push the single even harder next time. I doubt Simon Cowell's the type to back off.

I also like how 'you're a born entertainer' seemed to come out a lot. What does that mean exactly?

Don't forget Simon' overuse of the word "potentially"

That was "POTENTIALLY" world class! aka. you wouldn't even attract a crowd at Butlins.

Or when they'd take the song title and make it an awful pun-based compliment. 'It's Michael Jackson week, and that performance was a real THRILLER! Do you see what I did?'

I think that's why they've never had a Cradle of Filth week.

Hopefully it'll mean we see some artistry next year and an original song. Or better yet, they stop competing on the week of Christmas #1.

Aren't RATM signed to Sony?...so I doubt Simon cares much either way - it's all dollar to him

He will maybe make a bit towards his next botox injection, but it's just peanuts to him. Definatly not enough to make it worthwhile , the blow to his ego in the winner not having the top slot will be immense and will far far outweigh any possible monetary gain.

Well seeing as it is the most popular TV show in Britain...I think people will still tune in...!

To be honest, I doubt Simon Cowell even gives a shit if the reports of what he has planned for Joe are true.

I don't think Simon Cowell will be overly bothered if Joe doesnt make number 1.
The "battle" has generated him loads of publicity and therefore almost certainly more sales.
The Climb is an ok song, but no more than ok. Not sure it would have sold as many as it has without the extra publicity.

If Simon Cowell had to choose between 200000 record sales and number 1, or 400000 record sales and number 2, I am pretty sure he would prefer the latter.

No he's not bothered because,

Alexandra Burke will get number 1's next year.

JLS will get number 1's next year.

Cheryl Cole will get number 1's next year.

Susan Boyle will have sold 2 million by next year.

He'll have another 20 million viewers for BGT, and X Factor again.

Leona Lewis will also have another number one.

RATM fans in the long run? Hmmm

True. BUT Simon has a massive ego, although he's undoubtedly benefitted financialy from this the realisation that ALOT of people are sick to the back teeth of him will bother him imo. He's a man who wants to be adored and looked upto, he wont like being made to look a fool by RATM.

It won't. X Factor had it's highest ratings this last series, Christmas No.1 is just a bonus.

Simon Cowell will probably not be too bothered. At the end of the day, Joe's record probably sold more than it would because people were buying more copies of it to try and get it past Rage's.

At least people will remember Joe this year, because he'll always be the guy who lost to RATM, rather than " typical x-faxtor number one at xmas".

At least it gave people something to talk about in relation to his record, rather than being met with the usual apathy.

Oh, and the people who did download RATM believing they were doing something for the greater good.. no, you weren't. I think the section of the song that encouraged people to buy this particular record says " F***K you, I won't do what you tell me".... great sentiments, if they hadn't just all gone and bought the record after being told to by somone else in a mass movement... way to go...

If it's just a bonus why have Cheryl and Simon spoke out about the ''injustice'' of Joe not getting it? It's clearly important to them.

so it's official now, and Rage have beaten X Factor.

I wonder if it might mean that X Factor loses a lot of it's floating audience. Although there is no arguing with the fact that X Factor has a huge audience, they are not necessarily all so loyal. This sort of campaign may have made people that just watch it because it's on, decide to watch something else instead. I reckon X Factor has loads of floating audience members so it might be damaging for next year's viewing figures. Also, will the number of participants drop as people wake up to the fact that just as many people hate X Factor as love it?
