If it's just a bonus why have Cheryl and Simon spoke out about the ''injustice'' of Joe not getting it? It's clearly important to them.
Remember that when they speak, it puts them and their show in the headlines.

You know that every year from now on there will be a battle to keep X Factor winners off the top spot Love it. Although ultimately the winners are the record companies...

Well perhaps they should think before they speak. The pair of them have come out of this looking bitter and arogant beyond belief. They could have took it in the spirit it was meant and embraced a bit of healthy competition but no...

RATM fans in the long run? Hmmm
A free gig and a personal thanks to the fans, the actual fans who will be going to the gig that is, which is nice enough. Besides, RATM have got years of hits and a long following behind them, what you think of the band isn't going to make them cry, besides, all that money gone to charity compared to all that money going to Simon.

Oh, and the people who did download RATM believing they were doing something for the greater good.. no, you weren't.
No, because there was no other song that people to could download for the greater good. I'd rather have someone else take the top spot away from X Factor, but since no other single that had the hype, and Rage seemed to be the only hope for beating the X Factor, well we have no choice on the matter. It's Rage or X. Your choice. You needn't listen to Rage, just download it to beat the X Factor. End of.

i think that next year they will market the single more than they already do. I agree with the point that has been made with the song, and i think next year there will defo be some huge changes made.

Maybe it'll make them think more about what song they choose as the winners single

I'm echoing AntiInternet and DuckSeason on the long term effects of this year's result and to combine both together, I would hope that a future X Factor winner's song would be both an original song and something uptempo.

I wouldn't say no to Spacedone's suggestion of a rethink about the whole show finishing in time for Christmas though.

It won't. X Factor had it's highest ratings this last series, Christmas No.1 is just a bonus.
Christmas #1 is the whole point of the show . . . .

Wouldn't it be a blast if the audience was made up of Jedward fans, who supported the campaign to spite Joe! From reading various posts during this campaign, I've noticed that some of the folk pushing for RATM are, in fact, X Factor fans, who were unhappy that Joe won the show.

it will mean very little to TXF. its still a licence to print money from the tv show, and the winning act will usually generate a fair few $, hopefully a great many $ if they can find another winner as good as Leona.

the single only getting to number 2, rather than number 1, especially when its the result of a campaign like this, rather than poor sales, will have very little effect on the $ coming in.

It won't make much difference to XF's longterm prospects, but if it irritated Cowell for a nano-second then it was all worthwhile.

The whole point of the show is to make ITV and Simon Cowell loads of money, and it's achieved that.

Is it possible that they'll push the final back a week, allowing the physical single to be in the shop on the Sunday/Monday?

I don't think it'll lead to an upbeat or original single, if anything it'll probably lead to a MORE predictable cover; they normally do better. If Girls Aloud could score a No. 4 hit with the dreadful 'I Think We're Alone Now' and Rachel Stevens could get to No. 3 with 'More More More', then we can safely say that a well known cover will sell regardless of it's quality!

So Unchained Melody for next year's winner?!

Firstly i don't think it has done anything to The X Factor. People had to be "forced" to buy RATM, i use forced in a loose sense, and if i was RATM i would feel a bit peeved that i only got to No.1 because people were told to buy it to stop X Factor getting to number one. What the RATM campaign has done, is similar to what the X Factor does.

You would argue with yourself really wouldn't you? Your arguments are really becoming absurd and completely bloody pointless. You keep nitpicking at the smallest of detail and pick at it constantly with daft arguments.

Just because you didn't agree with this campaign does not mean your argument against it is correct. The fact the vast majority completely disagree with you clearly goes to show who's in the wrong.

All the way through the show like i just said. That's the whole point in the show. to buy the end result. You would have to be thick as shit or a monumental moron if you need to be told or reminded about this.

i get that of course Cowell would like people to buy the single, but no-one is actually told to buy it, are they?

that would only be nitpicking if 'not actually being told to buy the single' was anywhere near the same as 'being told to buy the single'.

but its not - its the complete opposite.

At first I didn't think it would make much difference at all but because of the reactions of Simon, Louis and Cheryl I'm thinking this might be the end of X Factor. I would have thought Simon at least would have had the good business sense to laugh off all this and embrace a bit of healthy competition but no...

I know people who are massive X Factor fans who have been shocked at the idiotic and arogant comments Simon, Cheryl and now Louis have come out with. They've gone down in alot of people's estimations. Why anyone would hold them in any regard in the first place I'll never know but each to their own.

The complete opposite of 'being told to buy the single' is actually 'being told not to buy the single' which isn't quite the same.

I quite agree. I think if Simon, Cheryl and Louis had kept their mouths shut, they would have fared so much better, but it seems that without the show for Simon to use as his speaking post, he has turned to desperate measures. That could be his downfall. Fair play to Danni for just shutting up.

If you like.

But it doesn't change the fact that no-one is actually told to buy TXF single.
