Some great choices in this thread. I particularly like Public Enemy's Fight the Power.

But although as overjoyed as I am at RATM getting the top spot this year, I kind of agree with one or two of you that the kinds of non-Christmas records mentioned here would be good for this year only. The moment has passed.

I don't think that the public would be behind the same kind of record again so I agree with the poster above that a very good Christmas record is probably necessary.
RATM served their purpose and achieved with flying colours. They created the overhaul needed to pave the way for more options in the future. Job done. I seriously don't think that the public will buy into the same type of record next year.

A good Christmas song.
Hopefully one that people like but isn't an obvious choice.
Something unexpected and different, but not like RATM.

This is my choice.
You may not know the name of the song or the name of the composer but believe me, you know it and you know it as Christmas.

There is only one choice. The song of the internet, well, Youtube anyway:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

There was a campaign last year to get it to number one but it didn't shift enough records. I'm a big fan of the singer so it would be nice to see it back at the top of the charts. It was the biggest selling pop single of 1987.

This thread has been rick rolled too.

Money- The Flying Lizards....

Christmassy as lets face it, its just an orgy of spending.

Plus telling Mr Cowell we are onto him!

OR.....

even better:

THE BEATLES version of Money.
Britains (widely regarded) best ever band, original songwriters and musicians, who experiemented and changed music with their originality and creativity, no kareoke type crap!

A song from Britains greatest ever creative musicians, plus a theme about blatant commercialism is the perfect mix for an anti Cowell song IMO...

If we're doing Floyd it should be "Echoes" or "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" from "Ummagumma", not ure any of these would qualify for the singles chart, though. No idea about now but there certainly used to be a rule about how long a song could be before it was no longer allowed.

There can only be one guy at the top of the charts next year and he is:

Rick Astley - Never gonna give you up

Still think it should be a current song, instead of picking old songs, don't see the point in that

Rick-rolling surely stopped being funny about 10 minutes after it started, never mind in a year's time.
