New Chart Show Rules???
bordersboy

With all the news this week being on the xmas number 1 it has got me thinking.

At present every download/single bought counts for the same (1 unit). However with some of these downloads costing around 29p and some singles costing £3.99 should the singles chart change to be how much money is made from a single in a week than how many units it sells?? This is how the film chart is counted so why not for music too.

Just wondering if anyone else thinks this should be the case too.

No.

But I do think then all physical sales should be exempt. There's nothing like cheating than heavy promotion of physical CD sales in high street stores.

Right, so because I like to pysically own a CD in a box with cover art which I can then put on my shelf, my sale shouldn't count? I think not.

Well you can still buy a physical, it just shouldn't count. Physical selection has an advantage but has limited choices.

It's only stupid because we are at the moment in transition between physical and digital.

What I am trying to say is that with Physical presence in stores, we are not at an level playing field between the formats of purchase.

No point changing the rules; this weekend has shown that the rules work - the single that people care most about for whatever reason gets to number one!
