Sure, the wee guy has had his dreams trashed but that is what happens to real musicians when they are trying to make it.

It's ridiculous that the winners expect a number one anyway when every other band/artist worth their salt learns their instrument, plays dirty pubs and clubs, pawns their flute etc on their way up.

The music business is a struggle for everyone.”

Very good point.

Very well made.

Truly deserved, a true Christmas moment.

People coming together, that's what Christmas is all about isn't it?

I think a Rage session is in order.

This is the problem I have with this farce. Love them or loathe them, people who buy the x-factor songs buy them because they want them, whereas most people who bought the Rage song only brought it out of protest. They the ones who have caused more harm to the charts because it is no longer the song people enjoy most.”

and some of us actually like the RATM song and brought it for that reason. Giving Cowell a "bloody nose" in the process is just a satisfying bonus!

I may be out of order here as I actually haven't heard it but is it a Christmas song? if it is then fair enough but seriously where are the christmas songs? every year I put together an xmas playlist and as much as I love Kirsty and Shane, John and Yoko and the Wombles it would be good to have new modern christmas songs!!

Someday you'll understand the meaning of rebellion, and you'll be glad of it.”

I don't have curtains so that shot down your theory
If Rage buyers were not sheep then nobody can argue that x-factor buyers were sheep. The problem I have with it as I mentioned earlier that most people who bought the xfactor song bought it because they wanted it, yet most who bought the rage song bought it not because they wanted it but to topple the xfactor. I even saw people post on forums that they bought the song even though they knew they hated it. That is sheep mentality which ever way you try and dress it up as a "rebellion".

Its not a Christmas song. I like it but I too would have preferred a Christmassy tune.

I agree.

I think its just splendid that Cowell has been toppled off his branch this time and I hope it gives other artists hope for next year.

I'd love a Christmassy floor-filling anthem.

I already had it downloaded from years back, but I bought it again anyway.

A simple 'up yours' to Cowell and co. for all the garbage they've dumped on us since 2001.

Right what's next...

Joe hasn't been completely robbed though. He is #1 in Ireland.

Not at all. If people want to buy stuff that they think is crap, it's up to them

It's not the greatest of songs but young Joe sings it quite well and you can understand all the lyrics. However, I have heard it a few times and I have no need to actually own it.

Every now and then life gifts you a perfect moment that renews your faith in mankind, lifts your soul and has you jumping around like a total loon. Listening to this year's No2 being announced had me grinning like an idiot, as excited as I was when they hit the stage at Pinkpop in 1993 and tore the place apart. It's a cracking tune, a fantastic campaign (which has raised £75k for Shelter) and it gives me some hope that when my son grows up he might actually have a choice of what music he listens to.

Top work folks, job well done.

Isn't that exactly what this campaign was all about? They felt X-Factor winners had become too big, so wanted to pop the bubble.

Personally, I really can't understand why people get so enraged at the success of Cowell/BMG/Syco/X-Factor. It's just a business. They invest a lot of money into it, hoping to get big returns. Why is it that we are happy to lap that up in every other industry, but the music biz is somehow different?

My Mum is 64, she hasn't bought a 'pop' record since Cliff was a nipper. And yet, every year since The X-Factor inflicted itself on our Saturdays, she's bought the winner's song.

She doesn't buy it because it's the best thing out there, she doesn't actually listen to anything else that MIGHT be out there. She buys it because because she's just spent weeks and weeks emotionally investing in some dimwits 'journey'. It's bought as a souveneir (sp?) from her time at Club Cowell.

And while there are millions of people doing that nothing else stood much of a chance, for years. No wonder most bands have given up the fight and gone home for the holidays! The fun of the Christmas No 1 had been sucked dry.

I downloaded RATM with great pleasure (always did like 'em), and tonight's events will have me chuckling long into the new year.

Merry Christmas!

Whereas the people who bought the RATM single were going to buy it anyway this week? Nothing to do with other people buying it or encouraging others to buy it?

At least Cowell didn't encourage people to buy the McElderberry single for any reason other than they like it.

I like to think of it as a collective mind, rather than 'sheep'. I.E. a common idea/desire spreads amongst a lot of people who have similar thoughts about the subject, rather than people just being sheep and being told what to do. I think that applies to both RATM supporters and X factor winner supporters.

Symbolically good, though I suspect Cowell made more money than he otherwise would have.

Cowell is no doubt happy as larry. This `battle' has simply served to court a mass of publicity, and all publicity is good publicity. RATM will do very well out of this, financially (I know they're donating the proceeds, but the vast majority of people had never heard of them until this month and other sales will inevitably flourish), but likewise Elderberry will also make a killing on the back of this.

Right, cause that's what everyone did wasn't it?
I downloaded it. I've already got the album from years ago but I love the song and 29p was well worth it to cause even a minor irritation to Simon Cowell.

It's a crap song, with crap lyrics and a boring vocalist imo. Seriously, with the exception of last year's choice of song, why do they pick such dreary tosh to inflict on the winner? I can't believe even Joe dreamt of singing that kind of crap and it's not likely to win over any doubters.
