bigzarafan

Joe is #1 in Ireland with RATM at #2, but since the Irish singles chart is released on a Friday, is there Christmas chart actually next Friday's chart?

Never mind, I've just found out that the Irish Christmas chart is revealed on Thursday evening. Hope Joe can stay at #1, but kinda funny that people bought RATM before they needed to

I know, it's so annoying! And the sales will start to drop off this week because people will have heard that "joe was beaten to No.1", not realising that it's the UK chart that is being referred to and that the Irish Christmas chart is actually this week. The Irish Singles Chart is a non-event in this country, I'm not even sure that they still play it on the radio any more. In fact I've often heard radio shows talking about what's No.1 in the UK chart rather than the Irish one

The Irish chart is pretty much non existant because sales are so low there. Most of the time it is more or less the same as the UK chart give or take a few positions. But sometimes you get a song that does really well in the UK but flops in Ireland or vice versa.

Although due to the chart being compiled on Friday's the Christmas No.1 will be revealed this Friday (Christmas Day).

How do you know this?

And the Christmas No.1 is being revealed on Christmas Eve

Didn't 'Fields of Athenry' spend about 100 weeks in the Irish Top 20 during the eighties?
When I first heard the actual record, I was waiting for the guy to get to the bit about Kenny Dalglish...

They're actually surprisingly different actually. If we look at the past 10 weeks, in the UK, in terms of the number ones, we've had:

Alexandra Burke and Flo Rida(1)
Cheryl Cole (2)
JLS (1)
Black Eyed Peas (1)
The X Factor Finalists (2009) (1)
Peter Kay's Aminated All-Star Band (2)
Lady Gaga (1)
Rage Against the Machine (1)

All of them, except the Peter Kay song are X Factor related, but the Peter Kay's song was for charity. If I'm correct, the Black Eyed Peas and Jason Derulo would've been number one instead of the charity singles.

Whilst in Ireland, it's been:

Alexandra Burke and Flo Rida (1)
Cheryl Cole (4)
The X Factor Finalists (2009) (3)
Lady Gaga (1)
Joe McElderry (1)

So, infact, Ireland's past 10 weeks have ALL had X Factor related number ones.

There's other major differences aswell. For example, I Gotta Feeling, by the Black Eyed Peas was number one for 6 weeks, and then 6 weeks again after a week's break, totalling a whopping 12 weeks, whilst in the UK, it only topped the charts for two separate weeks.
