I was wondering what is the cheapest FREESAT box I can get with built in HDD, not bothered about the size of the HDD, but 250Gb minumum.

They seem to be really expensive, after all its only freeview, with the capability to record on to a HDD.

I used to have 2 Sky + boxes, and would like to utilise the Freesat part, and the ability to record, but you can get these boxes around £90, which is what normal freeview boxes with HDD built in are.

If there is anyone out there who has come across a box of such nature for around the £100 mark, please shout.

pxalexander,

Freesat recorders are high definition decoders of significantly more complex design than just a freeview product. The technical requirements and even the hardware to build such a box do mean it is more expensive to manufacture.

I am not aware of any device with a recorder and hard disk for under £200, let alone £100, but the Sagem PVR is around that price from Argos. Or you can find the Foxsat-HDR for £250.

Remember Sky boxes are subsidised at sale and their second hand price reflects market forces. A good Freeview+ recorder will on average well exceed £100 retail:

Cheapest isn't always best.

I do agree cheapest is not always the best, but as I dont have a TV Ariel in the bedroom and I have 2 lovely Satellite wires, its a shame to pay a lot of money for the freesat boxes with built in HDD's.
Appreciate they will carry HD technology, which Im not too fussed about. All I want is the same as a normal freeeview box with the HDD capability.

So annoying, they are a lot of money for what they give. (The freesat boxes with built in HDD).

As I have a Sky + box already, its a joke the hard drive is a disabled function.

Well it may be cheaper to have an aerial installed and buy a freeview pvr to be quite honest.
