I have recently bought a FOXSAT HDR and I am still learning about it and would appreciate some help on a few things.
1) The manual refers to 'commercial skip' under 'trick-play' but I can't find any info on how to do it.
2) How can I erase a short period of recording such as a commercial, sometimes called A to B erase.
3) When watching 'Have I got news for you' on Freesat the sound kept fluctuating considerably. I adjusted the volume on both the HDR and the TV (Sony 40W5500) and seemed to improve it. I later turned off the 'Auto' volume in the TV and this seems to have fixed it. Can anybody confirm that this is usual?

Regards,
Reg.

In my opinion the manual is not worth the paper its printed on.
Assuming you still have the HDR set on default settings the two pushes of the >>| button ( above the blue button) will advance a recording 2 X two minutes which should be about right.
To my knowledge you cannot to an A to B erase, but someone more knowledgeable might know how.
I have no knowledge of Sony TVs so cannot help on that topic.

The Auto Volume is supposed to be for where adverts are much louder than the programme and blast out at you; this option normalises the sounds, but you do get "fluctuating" sound with it. I don't like it, and have it turned OFF.

Thanks to 'germanycalling' for your reply. I was hoping for some kind of automatic way of either not recording ads or skippling them on playback, but I'll try your suggestion.

Hi Les, nice to hear from you again (you replied to another of my threads a couple of weeks ago). As you say the Auto volume is for preventing ads from being too loud and I have used it since I bought the TV. I have never had fluctuating sound on Freeview but I have noticed it a couple of times on Freesat. I would have expected the Auto volume to be a help rather than a cause of the problem. I did manage to get a balance between the volume setting on the FOXSAT and the volume setting on the TV that almost eradicated the problem. However if you don't know of a fix then I doubt that there is one! Have you any suggestions for my other two queries?
Regards,
Reg.

No, there's no auto skipping, or auto erasing of ads.

Like germanycalling, I use the Skip & Instant Replay buttons all the time. Most ad breaks on the main channels are 4 mins, so these work great, and just become second nature. I hardly ever use FFWD/RWD now.

Rgds.

With the skip forward and back being user changeable I have set my HDR to skip forward 1 minute and back 15 seconds.

With most ad breaks being 3 to 4 minutes long and most ads being 30 second segments I just press the button 3 times and if the ads are still showing giving another press, and if I over shoot do a couple of 15 second back jumps.

I have found this to be ideal for advert jumping with the lack of any editing.

The above statement is just between you and me and under no circumstances is to be shown or discussed with anybody at ITV.

Hi Skip Tracer, thanks for your reply. I'll give it a go. Oh, and "mum's" the word, wink, wink.
