At Orange's PAYG £4 per Mb GPRS rate that would mean each message would cost something like 0.09p if shifted over GPRS... assuming my maths is right.

I read a thread a while ago(on another forum). Average SMS were said to be 500bytes.

the max size for the message on a sms is 160 chars, add on a few bytes for the header so max I'd assume would be 256 bytes.
the memory you are referring to most likely won't be used for storing the sms messages as most of the time they can be stored on the sim, either way you won't be filling it up soon (I reached a few hundred on one of my phones before removing the ones I didn't need anymore), the phone manual should say how many messages the phone can store. The reason why sms's are expensive is due to the fact that you have to do the equiv of a call to your provider to send it, so you end up been charged for a few seconds of call to send it |

The reason they are so expensive is because no one objects to sending them at 10p!

I do! But it doesn't stop me sending them... *sigh*
Seriously thinking about switching one of the 3Pay VideoText tariffs. |

I think I read somewhere a comparison on sending a text document to somewhere like Iceland. Cannot recall all the categories but it was something like this...
Which one was the most expensive? 1. Email 2. Fax 3. Reading the text out to someone over the telephone. 4. Mail. 5. Personal courier (like a bike) 6. UPS super next day before 8am service 7. First class flight by hand 8. Text message. The answer was text message. I wish I could find the original source as there are some friends who still think text messages are a bargain. Simon. |

I have a Myx6 and the most I can store is 100 and then 20 on the sim card. I'd be internested to know if I could change it. |
