I have to say I really enjoyed the final and wasn't fussed by the result. I'm in the entertainment camp more than the dancing perfectionism camp and anyway, on the night I don't think Ricky was significantly better than Chris.

HOWEVER, am I the one one who found the Bruce/Alesha duet absolutely excrutiatingly awful? I just think there was something creepy about him performing with a girl young enough to be his great granddaughter

plus Alesha's way of singing with a sort-of mid-atlantic drawl was annoying and Bruce was as off-key as ever.

Still, I suppose if Bruce has enough weight on the show to get Alesha the judging gig then the producers aren't going to say no when he asks if they can do a number together. If it was me I would say, "well ok Bruce, if you want to but don't you think you embarrassed yourself enough when you tried to sing Almost Like Being In Love a few weeks ago"

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

In fact, I think I enjoyed it a bit!

But then I've always liked watching Alesha perform.

Bruce got Alesha her job. How? Why?

I've heard it all now!

(btw: it was a bit cringey. I@d rather see Len, Bruno and Craig dancing together )

I found it rather enjoyable. I don't expect high art, I just want something fun that I can enjoy - and I did!

I love the idea of a Len/Bruno/Craig dance. pencil that in for next year!

It is well-known that Bruce is "slightly" obsessed with being some kind of showbiz Godfather to Alesha. When she guest appeared on last year's SCD he said "I think you could become the leading stage performer of your generation" or something equally nauseating.

He also arranged for her to perform at the Miss World contest last year. It therefore follows that he used his influence on the show to get her the strictly job over more qualified candidates. wake up at the back!

I don't think saturday's embarrassment would have helped her career any though!

Definitely not the only one. I watched with 3 friends and we all found Bruce cringemaking. Usually I can tolerate him but his inane comments during the final really started to bug me, and the duet was just grim. Alesha has a new single out and it would have been much better if she had perfomed that.

Brucie apart, I thoroughly enjoyed the final, far more than I had anticipated.

Your assumptions don't mean a thing unless you have proof/evidence to back them up.

Seriously, I would rather watch Brucie and Alesha sing till the cow comes home than to watch the likes of Cheryl Cole lip-syn live in X-Factor. It's not meant to be polished, just a bit of fun and off key though Brucie might be, that was the first time I think I saw HIM genuinely enjoying himself in the show.

I quite enjoyed it actually. I was a bit apprehensive about how their two distinct styles of singing would come together, but I was pleasantly surprised

He had the style right, but no voice. She had the voice, but no idea of the style.
The worst of all possible compromises.
"Somethings got to give?" Sadly it was the song.

No - I went to put the kettle on. Couldn't watch or listen!

For me, Bruce redeemed all his sins with one ad lib (?) comment to Bruno:
"Well you're definitely on something!"

I'm surprised how much I enjoyed the final with Ali out. Ricky walked the Ballroom and shaded the Latin (by the way, is Charleston a Latin dance ), but the lindyhop was "not really Ricky's dance" and Natalie seemed to have run out of inspiration for their showdance, while Chris took his showmanship to the next level.
You could argue for either to win. I just thought it was a fitting final.

I was fairly apprehensive about it

Bruce was awful, but Alesha was good I thought, and I ended up enjoying it in a sort of isn't Christmas great kind of way

However, it really was spoiled when Brucie did his excruciating "this boy's got something" wiggle at the end. I was mortified.

This I concur. It was so silly he did that.

What Bruce said when she appeared on last year's SCD is presumably on record somewhere; and he made similar comments when she was a contestant.

Re Miss World, it took only a moment to find something:

http://www.globalbeauties.com/world/2008/n_dixon.htm

Quote:
“Alesha Dixon is to perform in front of a Miss World audience of an estimated two billion people thanks to Bruce Forsyth. The 'Boy Does Nothing' singer dubbed the Strictly Come Dancing presenter her "guardian angel" in the Daily Star.

Dixon, who was crowned the champion of the BBC dancing competition last year, wrote of her recent return to the show: "All the producers, judges and dancers were like proud parents. It was like going home.

And lovely Bruce Forsyth, 80, is still looking out for me like a guardian angel. "He's arranged for me to perform live on Miss World next month in front of an audience of two billion people."”

BTW, I see that in this thread too Alesha is defended by attacking another woman.

Alesha looked pretty mortified as well.

I absolutely agree.......Bruce's voice isnt up to it anymore and they style of song didnt suit Alesha at all.

Have to admit that was truly naff, but typical Brucie!

Bruce and Alesha gave my mute button a bit of a workout.

So does that mean everybody who made use of their mute button doesn't actually know if Bruce and Alesha were bad or not?

I was very glad they did that duet as it gave me a chance to powder my nose, make a coffee and feed the cat. Forgot the mute button though and the howling from the other room was dreadful (her not him).
