In my experience best results are using AR rather than Autopadding certainly for the mainstream channels. In any case autopadding does not work at all well with ITV 1 HD recordings. You can set a clash with autopadding and not be informed (try setting 3 recordings with a clash produced by auto padding at changeover to a different channel while the other tuner is still recording).
For the odd channels that don't work well with AR use manual padding.
