Oh dear.

It's showing on all the other Sky encrypted regional versions of five, but not on the single FTA version (used by freesat and some sky regions, so some unhappy sky viewers as well)

So in this case the rights holders were NOT convinced by the 2D footprint, that it could not be received outside the UK.

If that's true, it sets a bad precedent for FTA tv.

But if it's a rights issue, then why did they wait until after the programme had started?

Lucky for my old Freeview box!

I watched it for about five minutes before the notice came up, went to other channels for about five minutes and then went back to Five. The notice had gone and I watched the rest of the programme uninterrupted. Strange!

Maybe so this time, but the "Not available on Freesat" slide is all made up ready to go so they must have some plans for it...

I find it difficult to believe that they are prepared to annoy Freesat viewers in the UK just to avoid some programmes being viewed by the relatively small number of people who receive Freesat outside the UK. There has to be more to it than that.
In any case, the electronic preparation of such a notice takes no time for the average graphics artist.
It was interesting to see that this notice appeared not only on Freesat but also on Sky Digital where probably quite a lot of viewers still don't know about the existence of Freesat.
Come to think of it - is that why this effort was aborted? Is it possible that they made a mistake and blanked the programme on both Freesat and Sky Digital?

They probably realised the Five on Freesat is the same feed as Five for welsh Sky customers.

That slide has existed for years, and has only been used when Five were testing FTA.

Can someone clear this up - did slide disappear after a brief time and programme be shown 'in the clear' on Freesat?

It also affected at least some people on cable - I assume Virgin Media takes one of the satellite feeds.
